It is with profound sadness that the family of Helen Joan (Warchenko) Bowen announce her passing on February 27, 2025 at the age of 93 years. Predeceased by husband Don Bowen after 61 years of marriage. She will be remembered by her dearly loved children, 10 grandchildren and 10 great grand children and other friend and loved ones. Children: Linda Emmerson and her two sons, Terry Bowen and his four children, and Jamie (Karen) and their 4 children. She was a doting and playful grandmother and very popular with her wonderful grandchildren and even some nieces and nephews. Helen was a loving sister to Victoria Riddoch. Predeceased by sister Sophie Bowen. Helen will also be missed by her family-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also predeceased by her parents Fred and Vera Warchenko.
Born in Foxford, Saskatchewan, Helen grew up in a small Ukrainian farming community. She was always chosen to be the teacher’s main soloist in school and church functions. Gardening and growing roses were her pleasures. Her roses and flowers were often seen in bouquets on Sundays at Boston Baptist Church and even some weddings. Serving her Lord was her life-long passion. She taught Sunday School and Pioneer Girls for many years, participated in community visitation and other church service and support. She even fashioned a robot costume for herself for a special Sunday School contest. The kids loved it.
She was Boston’s talented hairdresser for many years. I’m sure she holds many ladies’ secrets! Ever the friendly, joyful person with a warm smile, anyone who knew Helen would agree. She was an avid berry and wild berry picker to which her granddaughter Autumn can attest as she got roped into scouring the ditches with her grandmother to search for those berries. I’m sure Jamie’s artistic talent comes from her.
Helen would want to be remembered as a woman of faith, family and fun. You are invited to join us in remembering her life at 1 o’clock on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at Thompson Mott Funeral Home.
