It is with great sadness, to that we announce the passing of Harold Arthur Richardson, 85, of Milton Highlands on January 30, 2025, at Veterans Place, Yarmouth. Born in Englewood, New Jersey on August 1, 1939, he was the son of the late Clifford and late Doris (Strang) Richardson.
After completing high school, Harold spent 4 years in the U.S. Navy and then went on to work for New Jersey Bell, until he and his family moved to Hubbard’s, Nova Scotia on October 31st, 1969. He then began his career at Maritime Tel & Tel (Aliant) in Halifax. He transferred to Yarmouth in 1994 and continued his career at MT&T until his retirement. Although he was involved in many organizations (both paid and volunteer) his passion was the fire service. He was a member of the New Milford, N.J., Hubbard’s, N.S and Yarmouth, N.S. fire departments. He was both Deputy Chief and Fire Chief in Hubbard’s, an instructor at the Nova Scotia Firefighters School in Waverley, NS., an instructor of the Fire Service Administration course at Henson College in Halifax. He was also the EMO coordinator for the municipality of Yarmouth for many years. He was an active member of the board of directors at the Mariner’s Centre in Yarmouth & held a position of Chairman for 12 years. He was an active member in the running of the churches he belonged to over his lifetime. He was an original member of 100 Guys Who Share in Yarmouth & continued his involvement up until his passing.
Harold is survived by his children, Jeffrey (Pamela), Fox Point; Brian (Tracey Milvain), Tampa, Florida; Kathleen, Ontario, 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Besides his parents, Harold was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Carolyn; son, Michael; sister, Barbara Hinckley; brother-in-law Douglas Bruce Hinckley & nephew Steven Hinckley.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. A funeral service will take place on February 15, 2025, at 1 P.M. from Yarmouth North Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Shawn Kehoe officiating. His burial will be at the Brooklyn Cemetery. Donations in Harold’s memory may be made to the Yarmouth hospital foundation, the IWK, or your local fire department. There will be a Facebook live feed of the service on Rev. Dr. Shawn Kehoe’s Facebook page. Following the service it will be available to view at www.sweenysfuneralhome.net
