Peacefully at Headwaters Healthcare Centre after a long and brave battle, George passed away on Wednesday, May 21st, 2025, at the age of 61. Loving father to Emily (Dan Drakeford) and Patrick. Dear brother of Derek (Janet) and Patricia. Predeceased by his brother Tony and his parents, Patrick and Ethel. George was a special uncle to Bridget (William), Maggie (Mike), Kevin (Marlena), Kate, and John. Honorary “Grandpa G” to Thomas and Grace. George will also be greatly missed by relatives, good friends, and many longtime clients.
George was born in Dublin, Ireland, and came to Canada at the age of 3. He was one of three rambunctious boys and big brother to Patti. As a young man, he was outgoing, bright, and strong-minded, with a charismatic nature. His career was often entrepreneurial, starting a courier company at the age of 19. He later moved into the hospitality industry and, on the side, was an artistic caterer, beloved bartender, and talented chef. For the past several years, he returned to manage his courier company, with some clients he had known for over 30 years.
That being said, George will be remembered more for his relationships with his family. Emily and Patrick were his pride and joy. The stories he told revealed his deep admiration for his children. He was “that special uncle” that we all wish we had. His nieces and nephews were very dear to him. George spent the last two years living in downtown Toronto, a longtime dream of his. He embraced the Beaches with his kids and made some dear friends — including an old rescue dog named Bryce. George will be remembered as a joyful soul with a good story to tell, often repeated at least twice.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Dods & McNair Reception Centre, 21 First St., Orangeville, on Tuesday, May 27th, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Memories may be shared by family and friends at 3:30 p.m. Memorial donations to the Headwaters Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
A tree will be planted in memory of George in the Dods & McNair Memorial Forest at the Island Lake Conservation Area, Orangeville. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.dodsandmcnair.com.
