The family of Annette McCoy are heartbroken to announce her
death after a brief illness, on Monday January 6, 2025, at the Doctor
Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. She was predeceased by
her husband, Byron McCoy, after 64 years of marriage.
Annette was born July 8, 1939, in Fredericton, NB to the late
Raymond and Helen (Sharpe) Wetmore.
She is survived by sons Stephen (Sue) McCoy of White’s Cove,
NB, Kevin (Barbara) McCoy of Onoway, AB and daughter Janice (Troy)
Price of Maugerville, NB. She was proud Nan to Tyler (Kelly)
McCoy, Pamela McCoy, Zachary Price (fiancé Hailey Furlong),
Brianna Price and Cassandra Price, and 4 great grand-children, Kaylee,
Trace, Kendra and Kelsey McCoy. Her only remaining sibling
is Jack Wetmore (Marg). Annette also leaves behind sisters-in-law
Helen (Bert) Ladds and Thelma (late Glenford) Rolfe and many nieces,
nephews, cousins and extended family members.
She was predeceased by her sisters, Jean DeWolfe (late
Eddie), Mary Wetmore (late John McFarlane) and David
Wetmore.
Her passions throughout her lifetime were her love for
gardening, teaching, quilting, traveling and
history/genealogy. She recalled a time in her younger years
heading to the corn patch with a hoe and book. Annette
started teaching in 1958 (Harvey, NB) and continued for 3
decades. Her last year was in Southwest Scotland on a
teacher exchange. Most of the years were spent in schools in
Maugerville or Marysville, NB with the earlier grades. Many
of her past students referred to her as « the gentle
giant ».
Her love of travel paired well with her passion for genealogy
research of the McCoy and Wetmore families. During this
research she found out about Home Children. Once discovering
her children’s great grandfather was a Home Child, it ignited her to
delve deeper into her research. Another keen interest was in
the history of The Holy Trinity Anglican Church and cemetery (Lower
St. Mary’s); where she attended, was a member and
married.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to
Ambulance NB and the doctors, nurses, volunteers, and staff of the
DECRH for their exceptional care of mom during her final
hours. A special thank you also goes to Wendi, Norma and
Muriel for the home care and companionship that allowed her to remain
in her own home. Your kindness will not be
forgotten.
A Celebration of Life is planned for later May.
Details will be shared closer to the date. To honor
Annette’s wishes, you could « plant a tree, provide a book to
young ones such as an elementary school library (donation), or donate
to The Holy Trinity Anglican Church ».
