Donald James Lewis Obituary
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Donald James Lewis, who left us peacefully at home on May 5th, 2025, surrounded by those he loved most. Born on September 2, 1962, Don lived a life full of heart, humor, and generosity. Anyone who knew Don will remember his warm smile and his contagious laugh. He had a lifelong love for cars, motorcycles, and just about anything with a motor. That passion started in his childhood, when he’d spend hours taking things apart just to see how they worked, always eager to put them back together. This led to his very successful career as owner and operator of Consumer Auto Glass in Mount Pearl. Don had a knack for fixing just about anything – a classic handyman who took pride not only in keeping engines running but also in renovating and building most of the homes he lived in over the years. Whether it was under the hood of a car or with a hammer in hand, Don was happiest when he was working with his hands. In his later years, he found another source of pride as a volunteer firefighter, dedicating his time to helping his community and always stepping up when others needed him.
Above all else, Don was a family man. His greatest pride and joy were his children, Krystina and Donald, and his two beautiful granddaughters, Ellianna and Violet. They were the center of his world, and he never missed a chance to brag about them or share a story that made his face light up. He was also proud to welcome his daughter-in-law Stephanie and son-in-law Bradley into the family, both of whom held a special place in his heart. Don shared a special bond with his sister, Kathy, his nephew, Scott, and Scott’s partner, Neil. He cherished every visit with them, especially when it meant sitting down to a delicious Jigg’s Dinner – one of his favorite comforts. For Don, family wasn’t just important; it was everything.
He is predeceased by his loving parents, Martha and Leslie Lewis, and older brother Scott. While his absence leaves a tremendous void, his family takes comfort in the memories and love he left behind. Don wanted to thank all the friends and family who reached out with phone calls, messages, and kind words during his illness. Though he wasn’t always able to respond, every message and gesture meant the world to him and was deeply appreciated.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the incredible team at The Moncton Hospital. A special thank you to Dr. O’Brien, Dr. Ironside, and the compassionate oncology nurses – Katelyn, Jonathan, Billy, Parker, Erik, David, and so many others – whose kindness, care, and compassion meant so much during such a difficult time. They would also like to thank Ambulance NB and the wonderful team at Extra Mural Services in Kent County for their support and care.
A funeral service will be held at Our Lady, Queen of Families Parish on Wednesday May 14th at 10:30 am. A Celebration of Life will occur that same evening at the upper level of the C.L.B Armoury from 7pm to midnight. Flowers will be welcomed by the family, or, in Don’s memory, donations to cancer research are gratefully appreciated.
