Bo Kam Jung died on August 15, 2025 at Stratford General Hospital at the age of 94.
Predeceased by her devoted husband of 78 years, Hen Poy Jung, son Ken Jung (2018)(Josephine), and grandson Jason Cheung (2010), she will be dearly missed by her loving children – daughter Wai Ling Cheung (Ken) and son James Jung.
Also living and missing her are grandson’s Kenny Cheung (Yan Du), Chris Jung (Katya), Timothy Jung (Ann-Marie), Jonathan Jung (Monica) and granddaughter Jessica Jung. She also leaves behind her five great-grandchildren Dylan Cheung, Charlotte Jung, Alyson Jung, Emelia Jung and Lauren Jung.
In her life Bo Kam worked as a cook and seamstress. She sewed for a textile company in Stratford in the mid 1970’s and worked for a decade at the “Commodore Restaurant,” specializing in Chinese Canadian cuisine before becoming co-owner, with her husband, of “the Oriental Kitchen” take-out restaurant, from 1981 – 1989 up until retirement. Along with her husband, she had three main goals in life – to own a home (with the mortgage paid) to have her three children get a university education and to own her own business, all of which were granted before retiring.
Bo Kam spent the majority of her waking hours keeping the family home up, sewing, and supporting her husband in his hobby of gardening, growing a variety of vegetables and melons in their own backyard.
Bo Kam initially immigrated from Canton, China to Hong Kong with two small children while her husband Hen Poy worked in Stratford, Ontario to support his family. In the early 1960’s, Bo Kam and children were reunited with Hen Poy in Stratford and their third child was born. She had a tremendous work ethic, a very polite nature and a kind heart, always wanting to do the “right” thing for others and family. Along with her husband, they taught their children to always treat others with respect and to demonstrate compassion, empathy and remain humble. They demonstrated what it meant to work hard so that others recognized their labours and provided opportunities, and as such, showing accountability, resiliency and always trying to improve. She knew that trust was earned and not a given. All of these gifts were given to her children.
Bo Kam demonstrated stamina in achievement despite setbacks or perceived weaknesses – achieving all of her goals without ever truly having a command of the English language. She became the example in becoming a “survivor,” the definition of a tank – sometimes stopped in her tracks but fiercely moving forward again, and this became the measure of her being alright, when that fiery streak returned.
She was not only a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, but a role model, a protector, a great woman – loved and respected, and we will miss her dearly.
It is time for her to be with her one true love and rest, knowing that she achieved all of her goals and proud of the legacy she leaves behind. Always loved, always remembered.
A private family graveside service will be held.
