Avard Lamont « Monty » Hall
1942-2025
Avard Lamont »
Monty » Hall – 82, of Lakeville, Kings County, passed away on
January 16, 2025. Born in Berwick, he was the son of Basil and Rita
Hall, Lakeville. He was a hard working businessman who owned and
operated « Hall’s Maritime Welding Ltd. » for 40 years before
retiring. During that time, he became very well known for his welding
and fabrication abilities which generated a demand for his skills all
over the Atlantic provinces. In addition to welding, his business
included a Polaris snowmobile division which was a passion of his. He
was also known for the design and production of the famous
« Hall’s Maritime Welding Woodsplitter » which he always
claimed was the « best woodspitter in the Valley » and was
sold across Canada.
He had a passion for
motors and speed, which was evident from the memorabilia of his hero,
Dale Earnhardt, that filled the living room and the huge amount of 1st
and 2nd place trophies collected over the years, for Polaris
snowmobile racing and Farmall Antique tractor pulling. Time was always
made for his family, spending many weekends camping in the summer and
snowmobile racing in the winter.
He had many interests
and was a lifetime member of the Billtown Baptist Church and Choir,
past member of the Annapolis Valley Ridge Runners Snowmobile Club and
a current member of the Northville Farm Heritage Centre. He also
enjoyed working the past few summers on Charles Keddy Farm driving a
tractor and preparing fields.
Family was important
to him. Monty is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Margaret;
daughters, Michele (Stephen) Elliot and Janet Hall; daughter-in-law,
Lisa (Balsor) Hall; grandchildren, James, Breanna, Danielle, Jessica,
Shawn; great grandchildren, Mackenzie, Jaelyn, Chayton, Aria;
siblings, Basil (Kathy) Hall and Judy (Lowell) Sweet; along with
several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by
his parents, Basil and Rita Hall; son, Lamont Hall; sister, Marilyn
Langille and infant brother, Lorimer Hall.
Special thanks goes to
Valley Hospice for all of the compassionate care that was provided to
Monty and his family.
In lieu of flowers,
donations may be made to Northville Farm Heritage Centre or Valley
Hospice Foundation.
