Obituary of Aleksandar « Sasa » Relic
Aleksandar « Sasa » Relic, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at the Hamilton General Hospital, 4 CCU, on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at the age of 74.
Sasa was born on January 28, 1950, in the former Yugoslavia and immigrated to Canada in the 1960s, where he attended Delta High School. He leaves behind his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Mirjana, and their cherished children, Dan (Dusan) and Sandra (Aleksandra). He was a deeply loved Deda (grandfather) to Joshua, Athena, and Ari.
He will be deeply missed by his siblings Dolly and Sidney, his brothers-in-law Slobodan, Dragan, and Radovan, as well as his nieces and nephews Jasmina, Nenad, Suzanna, Perica, Ksenija, Kristian, and “Little” Sydney.
Sasa is predeceased by his parents, Dusan and Ljerka, and his brother, Damir. He leaves behind many friends and family members both here in Canada, throughout Europe and Australia, who will forever hold his memory close to their hearts.
A proud retired machinist, Sasa took immense pride in his work and accomplishments. He found joy in the outdoors, spending time fishing, hunting, and cheering for his favorite sports teams, especially the Toronto Maple Leafs. One of his greatest joys and happiness came from guiding and mentoring his grandson Joshua and watching him grow and thrive.
Sasa will be fondly remembered by many, for his generous spirit and unwavering willingness to help others. Whether lightening someone’s workload, easing their stress, or simply lending a hand, without complaint until the job was done. Sasa’s selflessness touched the lives of many. His only expectation in return was friendship, which he valued deeply. His quiet, thoughtful generosity will be remembered by all who knew him and stayed in touch with him
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the dedicated nurses and doctors of Hamilton General’s Cardiac Care Unit. Your unwavering compassion, exceptional care, and tireless efforts during Sasa’s final days will forever be remembered and deeply appreciated.
As per Sasa’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Burial of the cremated remains will be held at White Chapel Memorial Gardens on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. (1895 Main St W, Hamilton, ON, L8S 1J2).
