A life of giving to his community is complete.
Ron, a loving husband of 64 years to wife Elaine. Adored father of Lisa (Bill), David (Julie) and Andrea (Danny). Proud grandpa to Jen (Jon), Eric, Kaitlin (Mike), Gemma, Meg and Tobias. Blessed great grandfather to Abigail and Aubrey. Passed peacefully.
Ron was born in London and raised in Woodham with his younger sister Barb. Upon finishing high school, he began his life in education. While attending the teaching program at Althouse College he met the love of his life, Elaine. They married on July 2nd ,1960. He found a teaching job with the Halton Board of Education and settled in Georgetown soon after. Spending most of his career as a Principal, he was widely respected by his staff and students. To say that he loved his time in education doesn’t quite describe it. I’m sure many can picture him in an outlandish Halloween costume or cheering on student athletes. Towards the end of his career in education, he began to devote his time to his community in another way, by becoming a Councilor for the Town of Halton Hills, a position he held for 15 years. He was named Halton Hills Senior of the Year in 2006. Over the years, giving back to his community took many forms – from his younger years in the Optimist Club, to his retired years as a volunteer driver for the Cancer Society and his active participation with St. Albans in Glen Williams. Retirement also brought lots of travel, including the numerous trips to Las Vegas and Cuba among his favorites.
In the mid 2000’s Ron began another adventure with his wife, by moving north to Sandy Cove in Innisfil. There they found a new community with the “Linden Loonies” and the regulars at The Cove. Early 2023 saw another move to White Cliffe Retirement Home in Courtice to allow for more support from family. Ron spent the last year and a half of his life at Hillsdale Terraces in Oshawa. The family cannot say enough about the wonderful staff at Hillsdale. It meant so much to know that he was safe and cared for at the end of his journey.
In accordance with his wishes, there will not be a public memorial service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that a donation to a local school be made, to support their athletic or extracurricular programs.
