It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Zvonimir Petruša on May 2nd, 2024.
He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and cherished member of the community. He leaves behind his loving wife Marija, daughter Mishelle (Philip), son Emil (Nancy), son Zvonimir (Nidhi), grandchildren Nikolas, Matias, Nyah, Luka, Liviya, Niko, brothers Nikola, Josip, and Marko, sister Marica, numerous nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. He is predeceased by his father Nikola, mother Ana, sister Barica, and brothers Lovro and Ivan.
Born on Petruš Vrh, Vivodina, Croatia on September 8th, 1950, to Ana and Nikola Petruša; he was the youngest of eight siblings. After growing up on the family farm, he briefly worked and lived in Germany in the early 1970s. From there, he moved back to Croatia, and, through his mother’s guidance, ultimately decided to immigrate to Victoria, British Columbia, Canada on December 4th, 1975. He met his wife-to-be, Marija Šimičević, in 1977. Their bond and love was immediate and deep; they were inseparable from that point on, sharing almost 47 wonderful years together.
Marija and he created a beautiful life, surrounded by their children who all live close by in Victoria. Zvonimir was a devout family man; this was evident by his love and affinity for all of his grandchildren in his later years. Zvonimir fulfilled his passion for working with his hands as a mason. His talent and ability for craftsmanship was evident by all; he was honest, hardworking, and loyal.
A funeral service for Zvonimir will be held at 10:00am at St. Leopold Mandic, followed by entombment at Royal Oak Mausoleum, with a reception thereafter at Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens at 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC, on Thursday, May 9, 2023.
