Obituary for
Yvonne Triplett
January 16, 1926 – May 1, 2024
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Yvonne Triplett on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, in Edmonton, Alberta. She was born prematurely in Bonnyville, AB, weighing only 3 pounds. The doctor didn’t think she would make it, but she was determined.
Yvonne grew up on a farm near Bonnyville with 5 other siblings. They raised pigs, cows and chickens, while keeping big gardens and doing plenty of chores with no modern equipment – everything was done by hand.
Yvonne walked to a small county school until finishing grade 8. She then stayed home for 4 years, until 19, before going back to school in Bonnyville to finish grade 12. Halfway though grade 12, a nursing aide program became available from World War II. She took it at the age of 22 and became a nursing aide. She worked in Calgary, Lethbridge and the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton. In her 20’s, she had her 2 beautiful daughters, Gwen and Joan. She met her second husband, Clarence, and married in 1953. They farmed north of Sangudo where they were blessed with 3 boys, Robert, Roy and Baby Jeffery, in addition to 3 more daughters: Janet, Darlene and Trudy.
In 1966 and 1967, they built a big house to raise all the children. This is where they hosted countless celebrations, birthdays, wiener roasts, Christmases, Easters and Thanksgivings. Yvonne cherished these celebrations with neighbours and family. She also enjoyed quilting, gardening, flowers, loved animals, walks, reading books and embroidery.
After her husband passed away, she sold the farm in 1985, moved to a house in Mayerthorpe, and then a trailer in 1993. In both places she babysat for different families. When her grandchildren or great-grandchildren would visit, she had a huge smile, she loved her big family.
She traveled lots, including going through Alberta, B.C., a cruise to Alaska, Hawaii, a maritime trip, Ontario and Quebec. In 2002, she sold her trailer and moved to Devon, where she lived in a smaller house. After she got sick with kidney disease, she moved to Discovery Place, a senior’s home in Devon, which was her home for 8 years. When her health declined, she moved to Benevolence Care Centre in West Edmonton, where she lived until her passing.
Yvonne was a beautiful free spirit, who loved nature, the beauty of the world and her family. She will be missed dearly.
Yvonne will be lovingly remembered by her children, Gwen (Bill), Joan (Brad), Robert (Leona), (Tess), Janet (Barry), Darlene (Dwight) and Trudy (Syd); along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, 4 great-great granddaughters, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was predeceased by her second husband, Clarence; her baby boy, Jeffery, son, Roy; son-in-law, Pat; two stepsons, Ken (Joan) and Carl; great-grandson, Baby Kennedy; parents, Philippe and Clara Lavigne; 3 sisters, Marie-Ange (Louis), Irene and Marielle (Cliff); and 3 brothers, Baby Real, Alex and Henry (Esther).
We would like to thank the staff at Discovery Place and Benevolence Care Centre for the care and love they gave our mom.
A Celebration of Yvonne’s Life will be held Saturday, May 11, 2024, at 11 a.m. at the Mayerthorpe Diamond Centre, 4918 – 54 Street, Mayerthorpe with interment in Mayerthorpe Cemetery. In lieu of other tributes, donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada.
