McCourt (nee Dias), Yvette Cristalina
Yvette passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at Lakeridge Health Oshawa at the age of 86.
Now joined together in heaven with her husband Francis McCourt. Loving mother of Neil McCourt (Wendy) and Lydia Devereaux (Cory) and the late Jason McCourt. Cherished grandmother of Paige McCourt and Brandon Devereaux. Loving sister of Olga Madeira (Placido), Rosario Dias (Juliana) and Armando Dias (Pearl). Loving sister-in-law of Tony McCourt (Anne), Maureen MacKay (Ian), Rosaleen McCourt and Edna McCourt. She will also be fondly remembered by many extended family including nieces, nephews and cousins, and friends from throughout her life.
Yvette was born on December 22, 1936 in Bombay, India and immigrated to Canada in her 30’s where a new life of change and opportunity was embraced. She met Frank as both were Boy Scout leaders in Scarborough, and although immigrants from two different countries of the world, India and Scotland, their love was established through their shared interests and most importantly their Roman Catholic faith. Yvette was a proud teacher in India and Canada and had a significant impact on many of her student’s lives. Yvette took time away from teaching to raise her three children but returned for several years before retirement. She was a dedicated mother, ensuring even without a driver’s licence, she would take her kids on the bus to whatever lessons were needed. She always put her family first in her life. Yvette was an active community and charity helper in areas where she lived, Scarborough, Pickering, Oshawa and Port Hope. She had a love for food, especially Indian food and sweets. Her Catholic faith kept her strong, caring and devoted to loving everyone she knew.
The family would like to thank all her caregivers over the past few years. If desired, donations to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul or a charity of choice is welcomed and may be received at www.rossfuneralchapel.com.
“Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.” – Saint Mother Theresa. Eternal rest grant unto Yvette, O Lord, and let perpetual light shone upon her. May she rest in peace. Amen.
Visitation will take place on Sunday, January 8th from 2:00 to 5:00pm at Ross Funeral Chapel, 135 Walton St., Port Hope.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, January 9th at 10:30am at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 155 Walton St., Port Hope, followed by interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery, 114 Toronto Rd., Port Hope.
