Remembered in Love
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Winnie Isabel MacKinnon, aged 84, of Waughs River. Winnie passed away peacefully at the Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital on November 30th, 2023 with her granddaughter, Ashlin at her side. Winnie was born March 22, 1939 in Earltown to her late parents Walter Duncan Campbell Murphy and Janie MacNutt. Winnie is predeceased by brothers Roland, Merle, Arthur, Robert, Curtis, Alburn, and Gordon and sisters, Georgie Elliot, Viola Wall, and Allie Ross.
Winnie leaves behind her loving husband of 67 years Curtis MacKinnon, son Byron (Brenda) MacKinnon, daughter Beverly (Vaughn) Buckler, Grandchildren Alexander MacKinnon, Ashlin (Kirk) Ellis, Scott (Diane) Buckler, and Sarah (Brandon) MacAlpine. Great grandchildren Emerson, Jersey, Kaleb and Seth. Also, many special nieces and nephews she always thought the world of.
Winnie was known by people near and far all over the countryside, a social butterfly, a friend to all and always loved a good laugh, story or joke. Winnie started her working career in Tatamagouche at the telephone company and then later moved on to be a mail land courier for 30 years until her retirement. She was an active member of the United Church of Canada, a member of the pastoral care committee, and proudly served as a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the local legion in Tatamagouche.
Winnie had a passion for music and dancing. She loved to play her piano and have Curtis playing the fiddle by her side. Winnie had a passion for keeping people fed, cooking and baking for all her friends and family that ever walked through the front door of their home. Her family grieves with the knowledge of a life well lived and the gratitude of eternal peace well earned.
We express thanks and deep gratitude to the incredible staff at the Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital in Tatamagouche. Donations in Winnie’s memory may be made to the local Legion Branch #64, Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital or charity of choice.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Coulter’s Funeral Home, Tatamagouche, and at Winnie’s request a Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, June 29 at 11am in Lockerby Memorial Cemetery. Following the service, family and friends are invited to a reception at the Tatamagouche Legion Br. 64, after which the family would like to welcome any friends and family to the home of Curtis MacKinnon for music and stories of remembrance.
We leave you with a poem found in Winnie’s Bible:
«Grieve not for me, though I am gone for I am with you still God grant you strength
to carry on and understand his will
A soft tear shed from time to time will ease your sorrowed mind, but live your life
as fully as you helped me live mine
Time will heal your hurting heart; faith will see you through. There’s still a life left
for you to live, with courage I leave you.
Remember me with thought of peace, love each day with your heart, grieve not
for me though I am gone, we’re never far apart.»
