BILL SIEBEN
It is with grief in our hearts, but also with thankfulness for a life well lived, that we, the family, announce the passing of our father, William (Bill) Adolph Sieben, beloved husband of Kathy.
Bill is survived by his loving wife Kathy; four children: Brian (Kathy), Myrna (Ron), Debbie (Clarence) and Rod (Nyomi); eleven grandchildren: Brett, Daniel, Evan (Jade), Tyler (Anna), Breanna (Scott), Shona, Brodie, Tesla, Avery, Mareck and Mary; two great-grandchildren Micah and Lowen; as well as numerous other relatives and many dear friends.
Known for his strong will, commendable work ethic, sense of humor, and dedication to community, his love and support for family was the foundation of his entire life.
He was born on May 13, 1931 in Macklin, Saskatchewan as the sixth of twelve siblings, and passed away 93 years later on October 11, 2024 surrounded by family.
Bill spent his early years growing up on the farm near Cosine, Saskatchewan and attended country school near the town of Macklin, Saskatchewan. After grade 8, Bill completed grades 9 and 10 by correspondence, while working full-time on the family farm.
Throughout his career Bill demonstrated great leadership and resilience. Starting in 1955, he worked at numerous Co-op stores in Saskatchewan including: Macklin, Laporte, and Luseland, where, as a self-taught accountant, he started the first Credit Union bank. He continued to manage Co-op stores in Alberta, including Grande Prairie and Brooks. His working career concluded in Stettler working for Co-operators Insurance, formally retiring at the age of 60.
He continued to work as a part-time handyman for another 10 years.
Dad was an avid golfer, card player, reader, and curler joining many leagues throughout the years. Other pastimes also included bowling, camping, playing Bunnock, travelling, and fishing. His love of all these activities continues through his children and grandchildren.
Regardless of the weather, he enjoyed his daily walks to the local coffee shop to catch up with friends and neighbours, and they continued to meet for over 30 years.
The Catholic church was always a focal point of Bill’s life where he was an active member of the Knights of Columbus for many years, where he held the position of Grand Knight.
Known for many practical jokes and pranks, often at his own expense, Bill loved to laugh and had an infectious sense of humour. His welcoming smile would light up any room he entered.
Bill’s personality can be summed up in a single word: Genuine.
The family would like to graciously thank the nurses and doctors at the Stettler Hospital for the excellent care and compassion provided. We would also like to extend our appreciation to all the friends and family for their support during this time.
