William ‘Bill’ Larisey
1935-2023
William «Bill» Edward Larisey. On May
12, 2023, Bill died at his
home in Trenton at the age of 87.
Bill was born Sept 3, 1935 to William and Mary/May (Laing)
Larisey of Dartmouth, NS. He grew up with eight siblings and they
learned that despite their hardships at times, laughter and loving
your family are what really is important in life. Being with his
siblings and other family is when he laughed the most. He was a bit of
a charmer and a teaser, quick to smile and a great hugger. Bill is
survived by his brothers, Harold and David (Joyce) and his sister,
Beth Curlett (David), many nieces, nephews and those related to the
Larisey and Aikens families .
Bill met the love of his life, Joyce Aikens, when she was
hairdressing in the Mayfair Beauty Parlour next to his
parents’ house in Dartmouth. They married in 1965 and moved
to her hometown of Trenton where they raised their son Christopher.
They loved to travel, visiting folks in Nova Scotia, across Canada,
the USA and beyond, sharing their sense of adventure with Chris,
camping and fishing along the way. Bill and Chris loved NASCAR racing,
nature, fishing salmon and music and spent lots of time together. Bill
and Joyce shared a strong faith as members of the Seventh-Day
Adventist Church. Bill was a Deacon and found great support within his
church community.
Bill was a kind and loving caregiver for Joyce who suffered
with Alzheimer’s. He was a proud father supporting Chris in
sports and as a musician and sports fisherman, and helped him navigate
his challenges with ADHD and mental health throughout his life
.
Bill grew up knowing you had to work hard
to make a living. His work life included a variety of jobs including
as a CAF veteran and a paratrooper, a Trenton
policeman and a long-time employee of Northern Pulp, Pictou County.
He was a fix it guy and a cook with an appliance
and tool for everything.
Bill was predeceased by his wife Joyce; son Christopher; his
parents; brothers, Peter, Jackie; sisters, Marion MacLean (Stan),
Frances Melvin (Joseph) and Joan Monaghan (Joseph); brothers- in-law,
Ozzie, Harold, Ross and Donald Aikens.
Cherish your memories of a kind brother, uncle and friend who
enjoyed sharing stories , helping others and cruising in his Prius on
the country roads finding new places to appreciate and we’re
sure he’d want you to do the same.
A shared Celebration of Life service for Bill and his son
Christopher (died March 18, 2022) will take place on Friday, June 2 at
1pm at R.H. Porter Funeral Home, 55 Almont Ave, New Glasgow, with a
reception to follow. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, 27 Chance
Harbor Rd, Hillside.
Donations in Bill and Christopher’s memory may be
made to Alzheimer Society or Mental Health Supports in your
community.
