The family of Wesley Thomas Robinson is saddened to announce the passing of our father and grandfather on Wednesday, November 13th in Hanna Long Term Care.
Wesley was born on October 9, 1936, in the Hanna hospital to Catherine and Joseph Robinson. He grew up on the family farm one mile east of Watts along with his sisters Sylvia and Shirley and brother Emerson.
He attended school at St. George, Earltown and Watts until the 9th grade. His mother, who was a schoolteacher homeschooled him when they were short of teachers. Sadly, she passed away when he was only eleven years old. His paternal grandmother and maternal grandfather passed away shortly after. Wesley’s father persevered during these hard times and kept the children together on the family farm.
Through the years after he quit school he farmed with his father, Uncle Tom and his brother.
In 1957 he got a job at PFRA in town for a short period and that same year he married Ruby Bossert of Endiang. They lived in Hanna where Wes worked at various jobs including the CNR shop and A.A. Hutton and Sons.
In 1958 he started working at K and B Motors as a mechanic and learned quickly alongside his co-workers, Pearly Scott, Bob Regner and his boss Ken Gullekson. He worked there for 43 years and farmed in the meantime and of course farming being his first passion.
In 1960 Ruby and Wes welcomed a son, Blake Thomas.
Wes bought his first quarter section in 1962 from Irene O’Rourke, his father’s girlfriend; whom he had a good relationship with. In 1964 Wes bought land from Carl Johnston and moved the family out of town six miles west of Hanna. That year they welcomed their second child; a daughter named Sherrie Lynn. In 1972 he bought land from Sam Branum formerly the Andy McKay place.
Wes farmed with his son Blake until 2016 and had many wonderful years living in the same yard with his two grandchildren and daughter-in-law Lisa. The farm was a hub of activity especially when his daughter, her husband Steve and their two children came to visit. The grandchildren played many a trick on “Granpy” which always ended in a lot of laughter.
Going for walks, rides in the old truck, making homemade ice cream, and taking them for treats in town. It didn’t matter what they did, Wes just loved spending time with his grandchildren. His family and farm brought him his greatest joy and he excelled at both.
In 2017 Wes moved into Hanna Long Term Care where he resided for seven years.
He leaves to mourn his wife Ruby of 67 years, son Blake, daughter-in-law Lisa, daughter Sherrie, son-in-law Steve and four grandchildren.
A private graveside service will be held.
