Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Wesley Wihnan announce his passing at the University of Alberta Hospital on February 15, 2023, at the age of 72 years.
Wesley was born on June 30, 1950, in Canora, SK, the son of Harry and Jennie (nee Kopeck) Wihnan. He attended and received his education from East Scalat and Canora School.
As a young man, he worked for a year doing construction at a potash mine near Saskatoon, SK. He then returned home to farm with his father.
When his father suffered a stroke, Wesley took over farming and helped his mother look after his father.
Wesley remained on the farm on his own after the death of his parents. In November of 2019, because of his declining health, he moved to Edmonton to live with his sister, Shirley and his brother-in-law, Dmetro.
Wesley enjoyed farming and living on the farm and really missed it when he left.
In his spare time, he enjoyed playing cards and playing computer games.
He will be forever remembered in the hearts and minds of all who knew and loved him.
Wesley was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Jennie.
He is survived by his sister, Shirley and brother-in-law, Dmetro; nieces, Laureen Lozinsky and Leanne Sherman; and his great nieces, Nicole and Alexis.
Prayers will be held at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, March 2, 2023, and the Funeral Service at 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 3, 2023, both from the Chapel of Leson’s Funeral Home, Canora, SK, Canora, SK, with Rev. Fr. Michael Faryna officiating. Interment will follow in the Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Orthodox Parish Cemetery, Donwell West, SK. Those wishing to make expressions of sympathy may make donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, as tokens of remembrance, in memory of Wesley Wihnan.
