Wendell passed away on March 21, 2024 at the Silver Willow Lodge in Nanton Alberta and leaves to miss him, his loving wife of 63 years, Maureen, daughters Shauna Strong and Kelly (Michael) Lemelin, grandsons Darion, Christian and Jake, granddaughter Michelle, his brother Ron (Grace) Strong, his God son John Schneider, God daughter Mariel Fawcett and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Ed and Evelyn Strong, his Uncles George Hart & Bruce Strong.
Wendell grew up in Surrey B.C., spending summers with family in Pearson, Manitoba. After graduating from North Surrey High, he married the love of his life Maureen and began his career as a guard with Corrections Canada at Oakalla Prison. His love of wheeling and dealing took him into real estate and development. After a client told him about this wonderful little town in southern Alberta, he brought his family to Nanton, Alberta where they found their little piece of paradise and raised their daughters.
In Nanton, he built the Lost Lemon Restaurant where he got to meet and know many of the locals. The Lost Lemon days were also the source of his favorite weekday, Wednesday; known to Wendell as Family Day. These days hold special memories and are the source of “do you remember” and much laughter in the family.
Wendell was proud of his family and his grandchildren were a special source of pride and happiness with him traveling to many locales to enjoy them and their participation in sporting events and life. He lived his dream.
Wendell was kind and giving by nature, he was a member of the Nanton Mason’s, the Nanton Boosters and volunteered for Meals on Wheels until he was unable to continue.
There will be no service at Wendell’s request and in lieu of flowers, he would be knocked out at a donation to the Nanton Food Bank or Salvation Army in his memory.
