Vivian Joyce Bishop
1924-2024
Vivian Joyce Bishop
– aged 100, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 30,
2024 at Blomidon Court Shannex, Greenwich. She was born on July 7,
1924 at Forest Home, the daughter of the late Thomas Frederick and
Stella Evelyn (Graves) Lockhart, and the last surviving member of her
immediate family.
Vivian graduated from
Kings County Academy in 1943 and Provincial Normal College (Nova
Scotia Teacher’s College) in 1944. A respected and devoted
teacher, she taught for most of her career at Cambridge and District
Elementary School from its opening in 1961 until her retirement in
1984. Unwavering in her faith, Vivian was a longtime member of
Cambridge United Baptist Church, active in Church Workers and a life
member of the Baptist Women’s Missionary Societies of
Canada.
Vivian had a positive
outlook on life and a friendly welcoming smile. She was a kind,
compassionate and loving lady who chose gratitude in every
circumstance. Her life was rooted in grace. When discussing her age,
Vivian was often heard to say that she lives one day at a time and is
grateful. It was always important to Vivian to contribute in some way
to church and community events and to support charities. Vivian loved
outdoor activities and was an avid walker all her life. She enjoyed
playing cards, scrabble, crossword puzzles, quilting and needlepoint.
Vivian liked to travel and in her later years looked forward to car
drives across the Valley. Vivian was a gracious hostess to all and
enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Vivian is survived by
daughter, Kathryn Beanlands, Bedford; sons, Dwight (Patricia) Bishop,
Wolfville; and Gregory Bishop, Wolfville; daughter-in-law, Donna
Bishop, Port Williams; grandchildren, Jyl (Brian Veale) Bishop Veale,
Leanne (Michael Mason) Bishop, Andrew (Melissa) Bishop, Craig (Susie)
Bishop, Adam Bishop, Jason (Vanessa Lockerbie) Beanlands, Jennifer
(Adam MacMullin) Beanlands; nine great-grandchildren; and several
nieces and nephews. Vivian was predeceased by her loving husband of 54
years, Donald Floyd Bishop; her son, Raymond Bishop; son-in-law, Brian
Beanlands; brothers, Rufus, Dean and Wayne Lockhart; and sister, Vesta
Whitford. Vivian was a loving mother, grandmother and
great-grandmother and will be dearly missed and forever in our
hearts.
The family wishes to
extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Blomidon Court for their
kind and compassionate care.
Cremation has taken
