Viola Reddick Obituary
It is with great sadness, yet gratefulness for the peaceful passing of mom, Viola (Vi) Reddick, aged 96, on September 25, 2024. She died as she wanted, drifting contently to sleep, surrounded by her family. Mom was born on March 9, 1928, in Lacombe to Nels and Johanna Lindskog. She moved to Ponoka after marrying dad in 1948. Mom worked at St. Augustine School as their librarian and school secretary.
Mom was predeceased by her 5 older siblings: sisters Anne Webb and Lil Yost and brothers Johnny, Art, and Harry Lindskog. Mom was also predeceased by her husband Don (2012), her eldest son Bob (2009), and her infant great-grandson Rory (2023). She is survived by her daughter-in-law Laverna Larrivee of Sherwood Park; daughter Connie (Phil) Bakker of Winfield BC; daughter Janet Reddick (David Johnson) of St. Albert; son Gordon (Jasmin) of Edmonton; 7 grandchildren: Nathan Reddick (Samantha) of Sherwood Park, Kyle Reddick of Calgary, Craig (Erika) Bakker of Richland, WA, Dannika Bakker of Halifax, NS, Logan Bakker of Victoria, BC, and Kaelah and Jordyn Reddick of Edmonton; 4 great-grandchildren: Crew, Jaxx, Arrow Reddick, and Anwen Viola (Annie) Bakker; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Norman and Helen Reddick of Ponoka; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family both here and in Sweden, and her many friends.
Our deepest gratitude to the entire team at Golden Leisure Lodge (Rimoka to many). This was mom’s home for the past 16 years. She loved it there from the day she moved in. Mom’s mom was one of the first residents to move in when the lodge first opened in the 1960’s and mom was one of the first to move into the new E wing when it was finished in 2008. Your care, support, and compassion is extraordinary, deeply felt and forever appreciated. The lodge was her home, and you were family.
Thank you to Home Care and FCSS for all the wonderful care mom received as she got older. Your dedication and compassion helped her to remain independent in her home at the lodge for an extra 6 years. You were always there to help provide much needed services as mom’s care needs grew. Your kindness, support, care, and compassion will always be remembered and deeply appreciated.
Thank you to Dr. Halse and the team at Battle River Medical for your outstanding care, support, and compassion shown to mom and Janet. Your guidance and empathy in relieving her suffering will always be appreciated.
Thank you to Jamil Rawji and team at Ponoka Professional Pharmacy. The service you proved to the Lodge is unsurpassed and deeply appreciated. Your kindness, compassion and stellar service helped to keep mom independent while she lived at the lodge.
Thank you to Joan Parkin for not only her great care when driving for the Wheelchair Van but for her friendship to mom, David and Janet.
Thank you to Heather and Terry Bailey for their longstanding support, care and friendship to both mom and Janet.
Thank you to Ponoka Hospital team for the care, and compassion shown to mom during her many stays this past year and most especially during her final stay.
And thank you to daughter Janet and son-in-law David for their unwavering, loving support and exceptional advocacy.
Cremation has taken place and at mom’s request, there will be no formal funeral service. A private interment at the Forest Home Cemetery Columbarium next to dad and Bob will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation directly to Golden Leisure Lodge (5608 – 57 Avenue, Ponoka, AB T4J 1V7) to help improve resident’s lives or to the Ponoka Wheelchair Van Society (5006 – 52 Avenue, Ponoka, AB T4J 1R5) helping those in need of senior and/or handicapped transportation.
