Obituary for
Victoria Vorobec-Karpatsky
July 10, 1928 – September 15, 2024
We gather not only to say goodbye but to celebrate the life of an incredible woman, our mother and grandmother, Victoria Vorobec-Karpatsky.
Born on July 10, 1928, in Ukraine, she grew up during a time of great challenge and uncertainty. But if you knew Victoria, you know that her spirit was far stronger than any obstacle life placed in her path.
At a young age, she made the brave decision to leave her homeland, seeking a better life and greater opportunities. She immigrated to Canada, eventually settling in Edmonton in November 1960, with her husband, Ivan Vorobec-Karpatsky; her two daughters, Leah Vorobec-Karpatsky and Lucy Kroll; as well as her mother, Ludmilla Dolgov.
She and her husband built a new life for the family and while she may have come to this country with little, what she carried within was immeasurable—resilience, determination, and an unshakable faith in the future; something she instilled in everyone she knew.
Victoria never spoke much about the hardships she faced, but through her actions, she taught us more than words ever could. She was the embodiment of perseverance.
Whether it was tending to her garden and beautiful flowers, or whether it was helping raise her grandson, Michael Kroll, she was always there, all along the way sharing stories of the «old country» while baking her famous pies – everything she did was filled with love and intention.
Her home in Edmonton became a sanctuary for the family. It was a place where the door was always open, the table always set, and laughter always in the air. She welcomed friends and family with open arms, and no one ever left her home hungry or without feeling a little lighter in spirit.
But beyond her kindness and generosity, she was our heart and soul of the family. She taught us the value of hard work, the importance of family, and the beauty of small, everyday moments. She showed us that no matter where we come from, we carry our roots with us, and they make us who we are.
Grandma, your life spanned almost 100 years, and you witnessed history unfold before your eyes—from war to peace, from old ways to new technologies. Yet, no matter what changed in the world around you, your love and devotion to your family remained constant, and unchanging.
Though we will miss you dearly, we find comfort knowing you’re at peace now, reunited with loved ones who passed before you. Our pledge is that your legacy will continue to live on through the stories we tell, the traditions we keep, and the love you’ve woven into the fabric of our lives.
Thank you, Grandma, for everything you’ve given us. We are who we are because of you, and your memory will live in our hearts forever – and we will always hear your phrase “So much to do, so little time” as a reminder to live each and every day as though it was your last.
A Funeral Service will be held Friday, September 27, 2024, at 3:30 p.m. at Park Memorial Chapel, 9709 – 111 Avenue NW, Edmonton.
Rest in peace, knowing your strength, wisdom, and love will guide us for generations to come.
We love you.
