Verna Rose MacKenzie
1942-2023
As the sun rose on Sunday, January 29, 2023, Verna MacKenzie
(nee Green) passed away peacefully at the Grand Manan Hospital with
her son Chris and beloved niece by her side. She was born on March 2,
1942 on Grand Manan to the late Donovan and Marion (nee Ingalls)
Green. Verna was a devoted wife mother, sister and aunt. Verna will
forever be remembered as a very kind and loving person who enjoyed
sharing all she had with others. An avid knitter and baker Verna will
be remembered for her delicious baked bread, pans of fudge other
goodies that she loved to deliver to her island family &
friends. For many decades Verna blessed babies near and far
with her handknit gifts. In her younger years Verna was a sought after
babysitter. Having remained close to so many of the families
she was like a grandmother to many and was happy to see each and
everyone as they became successful adults with families of their
own.
After Jacks retirement they could often be seen touring the
island with their dog onboard, headed to the Anchorage to walk the
beach and collect sea glass. Verna never met an animal she
didn’t love. Having hosted the vet clinic for many years
Verna became the go to for animal advice. She was always a
dog person until her Himalayan cat Fynn came into her life.
He will surely miss her. Never one to complain Vernas brief yet
courageous battle with cancer showed us once again her brave tenacious
spirit. She will be missed by so many but in our loss,
Heaven gained a very special Angel.
Verna is survived by her son, Christopher MacKenzie; sister,
Angela Outhouse (David); brother, Cyril Green; brother-in-law, Eugene
Ingersoll; sister-in-law, Karen Green and many heartbroken nieces and
nephews. Verna was predeceased by her husband Jack, her son John,
sister Barbra, brothers: Russell his wife Peggy and Sutton first wife
Nancy.
Resting at the Community Life Church, Grand Harbour,
from where the Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday,
January 31 at 12:30 pm. Interment will take place in Maple Grove
Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations to the Charlotte County Cancer
