Obituary
It is with sadness, but admiration for a life well lived the family of Valerie Crisp announces her peaceful passing at Ridgewood Veterans Wing at the age of 99. She was born in Toronto, ON, and was the daughter of the late Florence (Hofland) and James Langdon.
Valerie enlisted in the RCAF Women’s Division in 1943 on her 20th birthday. She served in the Photography Division at RCAF Base Mont-Joli. Transferred to RCAF Rockcliff, she trained in aerial photography. One of her assignments was to develop and annotate film in the first detailed mapping of Northern Canada. She met her future husband, Flight Sargent James Crisp at Mont-Joli. Jim served over one Tour of Duty in Europe in a Lancaster with the RCAF’s 405 Pathfinders Squadron.
When their WW2 service ended, Val and Jim attended Mount Allison University, Val enrolling in their Fine Arts Program. After living in Amherst, they moved to Saint John and raised their boys. In midlife, she took up a career in Real Estate.
Val will be fondly remembered for her lifelong passion for art. She volunteered at the Saint John Museum and with the Saint John Art Club. Val displayed a selection of her paintings on Artists in Canada. She was a member of Silver Falls United Church, Life Member of RCAF 250 (Saint John) Wing and member of Simonds Lioness.
She is survived by her sons, Jeffrey and Robert (Elizabeth), grandsons Matthew (Nicole) and David (Bethany), great grandchildren Hunter and Sawyer and her nieces and nephews. Val was predeceased by her husband James, first son Jimmy and her brothers William and James.

Arrangements are under the care of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) with visitation being held on Friday, March 31, 2023 between the hours of 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. A private funeral service will be held.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Ridgewood Veterans Wing Comfort Fund.
