Obituary of Trudy Marlaine Borodenko
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our dear mother, Trudy Marlaine Borodenko (McNeil), at the age of 76.
On Thursday, August 17, 2023, Trudy quietly left this world, surrounded by her daughters Sherry and Tara.
Being the last surviving member of her immediate family, we take solace in imagining a joyful family reunion as she joins her parents, Fred and Mary McNeil, sisters Sandra and Susanne, and her younger brother, Harry. Also, reuniting with her beloved grandmother, Winnifred Haley, fondly known as MumMum. Trudy was also preceded in death by her husband, Peter Borodenko.
Trudy was born in Windsor, Nova Scotia, and grew up in Three Mile Plains. Her earlier years were devoted to raising her children, and it was in later life that she discovered her calling as a health care aide here in Winnipeg. This profession filled her with pride, and she carried her dedication through to retirement. Caring for the elderly was more than just a job for her; it was a labour of love infused with compassion.
During her last two years, Trudy received loving care from the incredible team at Donwood Personal Care Home. As she faced the challenges of dementia, they supported her with immense kindness and respect. Sherry and Tara are profoundly grateful for the care and support provided to them as well during the final week by the caring team.
Trudy was fortunate to share visits with her best friend, Helen, who often brought her favourite treats and the unique comfort that only a friend that was “like a sister» could offer.
Additionally, Trudy cherished the love of her favourite Uncle Dewey and his wife Joanne, who maintained her connection to her Nova Scotia roots. She took pride in her maritime heritage and would often reminisce about home, her accent still carrying a hint of nostalgia.
Mom turned to her faith often in life and really enjoyed attending chapel. It was her faith in God where she found comfort and especially enjoyed the older gospel hymns.
Mom, we love you dearly and want you to know how much we’ve learned and gained from you, with strength and resilience topping that list. This isn’t goodbye, just a «see you later.»
My mind still talks to you.
My heart still looks for you,
But my soul knows you’re at peace.
