Obituary
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Trevor Ronald Dawborn on April 18th, 2023.
Survived by his wife of 48 years, Ilean, his daughter Jennifer Gauthier, son-in-law Craig Gauthier, son Eric Dawborn and grandchildren Koel (Kelliesha), Kiana (Cassandra), Karsen (Kelsey), Griffin & Kyran and great grandchildren Braxton, Brooks, Nixon & Willow.
Trevor was born in Kingston-on-Thames, England and immigrated to Canada when he was young. The family settled in many communities in BC, always on the coast. The coast and the ocean always had a special lure for him. He often regaled us with tales of his youth and adventures including his time as a relief lighthouse keeper at Amphitrite Pt. and of the time he and his family spent on Stuart Island. He often shared with his oldest grandson Koel, his recollection of various landmarks and points of interest on Stuart Island as Koel was often by Stuart Island while working on the tugs. His children were his pride and joy; he’d fight fiercely for them and stand proud and tall with them over their successes and was always there to pick them up and dust them off when they needed that.
He loved being papa and would light up over the milestones and successes of each grandchild or even when they just entered the room. He counted himself lucky to live in close proximity to them and cherished that he was fortunate to have time with each of them. Kiana, being the only granddaughter was definitely the apple of his eye and he loved her determined and self-confident “I’m not going to take anything from anyone” attitude. Karsen was the “little one” as he pointed out to us all many times. He admired Karsen’s strength and was very proud of his recent determination and success. Griffin was his other self; Trev loved his enthusiasm and dedication to hockey and was that annoying parent/grandparent in the bleachers even when he wasn’t actually there. Kyran always made him laugh, especially when he reluctantly played “silly board games or did boring old people things”.
Trevor considered himself very lucky to have the opportunity to meet and spend time with his great grandchildren. He often said not many people ever have that chance.
Trevor returned to England briefly before serving in the Canadian Navy in Alert and Inuvik. He worked for BC Forest Products in Mackenzie for over 30 years prior to retirement and eventual return in 2013 to the Island, relocating to Campbell River.
No service by request. A private family gathering will be held in the summer.
