Thomas’ Obituary
ATKINSON Thomas (Tom) Leo – age 56 of Yarmouth, passed away, surrounded by his loved ones on Tuesday, September 17th at Yarmouth Regional Hospital after a courageous fight against cancer.
Tom was born on March 30, 1968, in Halifax.
Yarmouth was Tom’s home. Everybody knew him or knew of him. He was one of those people you could go to for anything, and he’d have your back no matter what.
He worked many jobs, he always made life interesting for his coworkers, there may have been a prank or two involved! Tom loved a good joke.
Tom’s pride and joy was his son, Austin, and his step kids. He helped raise them to be amazing people, he loved them all so much.
He didn’t lose his battle against cancer, he was so brave and courageous, and never lost hope once. He showed incredible grace, strength, and resilience.
His presence will never leave us, we’ll still be talking about his stories and jokes (most we can’t repeat here) for years to come.
Tom was an avid supporter of the Toronto Blue Jays. He never missed a game. A special thank you to Sportsnet for giving him a shout-out on a broadcast last week. It truly made his day during a difficult time.
He is survived by his partner and best friend of 16 years, Heather Northup, his son Thomas Austin Atkinson, stepdaughters Sherae (Jacob Fenton) Atkinson, Monica (Tyler) Faye, and Terri Atkinson, all of Yarmouth. He was also known as ‘Papa Tom’ to Payton, Arria, Hayden, Mason and Esme. Tom also had several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother, Mary Robicheau.
Tom was also the best ‘dog dad’ to Chloe and Lilly.
He is missed by the many who loved him, we will carry on your legacy.
And Tom, for the love of God, please do something about the Jays and Leafs.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home in Yarmouth. As per Tom’s wishes, there will be no memorial service. A private celebration of life will take place at a later date.
