Born to Vincent and Julia (Kelly) Baker of Marystown, the sixth of 11 children, Tom lived his
whole life surrounded by family and friends. Moving forward with a lifetime of memories and
love in our hearts are his wife of almost 53 years Carol (Doody); children Jennifer (Neville)
Lockyer, Anne Marie (Court Milley), and Stephen (Krista); grandchildren Marcus and Ryan
Lockyer, and Emma Jane Baker; siblings Kevin (Bridget), Jim (Theresa), Alice (Ray) Murphy,
Patricia (John) Norman, Vince (Dot), and Judy (Bob) Drake; in-laws Orion Baker, Marilyn
Donahue, Eva Sweetman, Barbara (Alan) Masters, Glenn (Annette) Doody, and Rita (Tom)
McCarthy; extended family Glenn and Linda Tobin, Susan and Dwayne Bursey, Andrew Tobin,
Lloyd, Elizabeth, Ryan and Jessica Brockerville; plus a large circle of family and friends.
Tom has been reunited in heaven with his parents, brothers Leonard and Edward, sisters Bride
Mitchell and Sr. Mary, RSM, and other family and friends who passed before him.
Tom lived his entire life on Baker’s Square and had a great love for his community. He was a
faithful servant and supporter of the Sacred Heart Church. Over the years, he was an active
member of the Kinsmen and K-40 Club, served on the Marystown Town Council, Marystown-
Burin Area Chamber of Commerce, Burin Peninsula Health Care Foundation, Burin Peninsula
Business Development Corporation, and the Board of Directors for Newfoundland and Labrador
Housing. One of his greatest achievements was the Community Pride Committee, which resulted
in the beautification of his beloved hometown.
Tom’s greatest passion was overseeing the Kinsmen Manor for Seniors, a housing project he was
instrumental in bringing to Marystown. He loved the residents and took great care to provide
them with a community-oriented, comfortable living environment.
Food, music, family and friends! Tom loved to host a dinner and a party. So many wonderful
memories were made in his home. He was very proud of his children and their accomplishments,
always being their biggest cheerleader and advisor. He instilled in them the importance of family,
volunteerism, and contributing to the community. His greatest joy was his grandchildren, who
brought him renewed purpose and wonder.
The Baker family will be accepting visitors at Wiseman’s Funeral Home, Marystown, on
Wednesday, June 7th from 10am to 12pm, 2pm to 4pm, and 7pm to 9pm, and on Thursday,
