Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of Thomas C. Worden announce his passing on March 20, 2023. Born in Saint John on February 5, 1940, he was the son of the late Thomas and Pearl (Souther) Worden.
Tom was raised in Ketepec and attended Saint John Vocational School. After a short time playing professional sports, Tom returned to Saint John where he worked as a machine operator for Irving Tissue for 42 years. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #22.
Tom loved his family, enjoyed get-togethers, attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, and visits to Toronto, where he was treated to his favourite foods and attended Red Sox ball games.
As a result of playing a short stint with the Chicago Blackhawks farm team, with such legends as Bobby and Dennis Hull, he remained a faithful follower of the Blackhawks. Through the 60’s and 70’s, he played baseball for the KBM Aces. He enjoyed spending his summer evenings with friends at the Grand Bay Old Timers Baseball League games.
Tom is survived by his loving wife Sandra (Hare); daughters Gail Wentzell (Wayne Meaden), Jacqueline Leger, Michelle Fishbein (Jay) and Debra Kay (Allan Cormier); brother Brian (Dunk) Worden (Dot Mowbray); sister Janice (Worden) Keating; grandchildren Jeremy Courtney (Jessica Mitchell), Alicia Courtney, Devan Beckingham (Andrew), Ryan Kay (Cheyanne), Candace Cote (Matt Taylor), Matthew Leger, Daniel Leger, and Evan Wentzell; as well as 4 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his grandsons Joshua Fishbein and Mark Wentzell.
Arrangements are under the care of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John, NB (646-2424). Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 23, 2023, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 24, 2023, at 12:00 PM in the funeral home chapel. Interment will take place at Erb’s Cove Cemetery in the spring. For those who wish, donations in Tom’s memory may be made to Diabetes Canada, the Canadian Lung Association, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
