It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our husband, father, brother, bapa and grandpa on May 5 2024, at home at the age of 79 with his family by his side.
Chas will be lovingly remembered by his wife/soulmate and best friend of 24 years, Nikki, and their children Nadia Charrington, Charlotte, (Paul) Furet, Natasha, (Avery) Kitchur and Kyle Reimer (and the dog Maya),and his grandchildren. He was bapa to Aalieyah and Madison Kitchur and grandpa to Jessica, Tristen, Jackson and Cameron Furet. He was Eldest brother to Tina, (John) Ward, Nick and Neil (Bard) Charrington, and Uncle to Isabel, Andrew, Claire, Matt, Gareth, and Peter as well as Amanda, Tyler, Desmond, Liam, Marissa, Abbygail, Emersyn, Melissa and Chasity, as well as many close friends and overseas buddies.
Chas was predeceased by his parents, mother Pauline and his father Stephnie, as well as his brother-in-law John Ward and his nephew Tyler Johnston.
At the age of 15 Chas spent his early adult years in the Navy himself, following in his father’s British Forces footsteps – some time being spent in Chatham dockyard, Kent, England. He was bitten by the travel bug early on. It probably started in Singapore where he was caught trying to sail out of Singapore harbour on a sea-plane float he found and modified, he was only about 11 at the time. He was already fiercely strong and independent but his time in the Navy solidified that to the extent that by the time he came out he was able to work and thrive around the world on Oil rigs. It’s not a life many can endure but Chas simply excelled, being promoted from time to time and he continued until he retired at the age of 65. Chas worked in 65 countries all around the world.
Chas had his first daughter Charlotte in October 1981 who spent her early years in England. Eventually they all returned to Canada.
Chas met his soulmate/ wife Nikki in 2000, became Dad to Natasha and Kyle, who were his step-children. After Chas retired, he helped Nikki with their in-home daycare for the last 15 years.
Nadia was born to Nikki and Chas in August 2006, seventeen years ago and became the apple of his eye. Chas made a point of imparting his vast knowledge and abilities to all his children. Chas was so proud of Nadia’s skills in figure-skating that he once built an ice-rink in the yard during the Winter of the pandemic, so Nadia could continue practicing. He was also amazed at her abilities with all the vehicles that they owned.
The whole family looked after Chas in his final years and suffered the anguish and upset caused by supporting someone with colon cancer, in pain and becoming more and more disabled. Nikki specifically provided the strength he needed with his rapidly declining health and weakness in the final days. All the UK-side of Chas’s family appreciate the sacrifices made by his Canada-side family in looking after Chas in his final distressing days.
Celebration of life for Chas will be celebrated on May 25 2024 as a private celebration at Chas’s home with all his close family and friends.
