MacDonald, Sylina Marie (MacNeil), age 100, of Lochaber
passed away on March 26, 2023, in Milford Haven Home for Special Care,
Guysborough, with her daughter, Mary, at her side.
Born in Upper South River, she was a daughter of the late
Hugh Michael and Catherine (Boyd) MacNeil.
Mom graduated from Normal (Teacher’s) College in
Truro in 1943 and taught school in Morristown, Brierly Brook,
Lochaber, North Lochaber, Upper South River, South Side Harbour, and
Sherbrooke Consolidated School.
She married Francis in 1954, and they and Francis’s
brother, Reg, lived a life of prayer and faith in God, attending Mass
at St. Patrick’s Church and praying the rosary
daily.
Mom enjoyed a good laugh and had a great sense of
humour. She was a caring and loyal friend to many, and a
beautiful, loving mother.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary (Jimmie) Long, Salmon
River Lake; grandchildren, Michael (Joel), Shelley (Jeremy), James,
Shawn, and Eric; and great-grandchildren, Ada and Finn. She
will be greatly missed by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren,
of whom she was very proud. She is also survived by many
nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her husband, Francis, in 2004; daughter,
Monica in 1976; sisters, Margaret (Joe) Mattie, Rose (Allan)
MacPherson, and Catherine (Hugh) Young; brothers, Michael (Sadie)
MacNeil and A.J. MacNeil; brothers-in-law, Robert (Helen) MacDonald,
Joseph (Mabel) MacDonald, Gerald (Mary) MacDonald, and Reginald
MacDonald.
The family would like to thank the staff of Milford Haven
Home for their wonderful care and to Mary Cooke for her unending
devotion to Mom.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm in
C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish.
Funeral Mass will be held Friday at 11:00am in St. Patrick’s
Church, Lochaber. Burial in the parish
cemetery.
