Mr. Stuart Roy Goodman,
June 17, 1939 – October 9, 2023
It is with deep sadness that the family of Stuart Goodman announce the death of our kind, brave, funny, caring, and generous husband, father, grand- and great grandfather, brother, and friend on the morning of October 9, 2023. In his peaceful passing, Stu was surrounded by his family and carried to heaven with a loving rendition of Amazing Grace by his girls.
Fifty-nine years ago Stu married Lynda Judson. Together they had three beautiful children – Laura, Lana, and Robb. Stu and Lynda worked together as a real estate team and created a welcoming home on Sycamore Place. Home was all important to Stu. He was a skilled carpenter and renovator who helped many of his friends and family members make their own houses into homes. Sycamore Place was the centre of this universe, in which Stu’s appearance as Santa for all his children, grand and great grandchildren became a signature event. Family, hockey, friends, and beautiful cars surrounded Stu all his life, and he could not have been happier working in his garage to bring to life all of Lynda’s decorating ideas. Stu loved playing goal with his hockey buddies and was a lifelong Leaf’s fan. He became a fan of cats when Lynda brought home a special feline, Mugabe, on the pretext that it was only for a few days. Only a few weeks ago, one of Stu’s last wishes was fulfilled as he proudly was able to walk his daughter, Lana, down the aisle at her wedding to Jim.
Stu was predeceased by his parents, Ernie and Edna Goodman. He is survived by his dear wife, Lynda, and by his three children, Laura (Bill Murphy), Lana (Jim Pepin), and Robb (Paula), grandchildren Rachelle Murphy (Dave MacLellan), Charlene Murphy, Jessica Hayes, and Rebecca, Judson, Samantha, Olivia, and Ethan Goodman. Stu is also survived by his sister, Donna, his great grandchildren, Kaija and Elli Myllyaho and by his sisters-in-law, Della and Betty, and brothers-in-law, Bob, Jim, and Joe.
As per Stu’s wishes, a family celebration of his life occurred on Thursday, October 12. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses involved in his care and all of Stu and Lynda’s friends who have been so kind.
In lieu of flowers and tributes, contributions to St George’s Anglican Church (298 McIntyre St., Thunder Bay, P7A 3B6) are greatly appreciated.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Center, 575 Central Avenue.
