Steve St. Jacques Obituary
With profound sadness and broken hearts, we announce the passing of Steve St. Jacques. Steve passed away with the love of his life by his side on September 11th, 2024, at the age of 49.
Steve will be deeply missed by his beloved wife Cheryl St. Jacques, and is survived by his children Max, Olivia and Megan, grand daughter Charlotte, his parents Dennis and Christine St. Jacques, brother Mike St. Jacques, mother-in-law Bobbi Tylor, sister-in-law Laura Sahner, brothers in law Gary Sahner, Doug Moore as well as his cousin Caroline Piat.
Steve was born in Burlington on April 10th,1975. He often told stories of playing hockey, fishing, time spent in Cobalt and doing “typical big brother stuff” to his little brother Mike. In his teen years Steve developed a passion for welding. Over the decades he became a master of his skill and was proud of the work he accomplished. Along the way while working at Siemens, Westinghouse and Stelco : Lake Erie, he made lifelong friends who he cherished deeply. Since moving to Sudbury area, Steve was employed at Patrick Mechanical Ltd. Steve took immense pride in his work, being a tradesman, and a mentor to the younger guys joining the company. Steve enjoyed being challenged and was proud to be recognized for his expertise. It didn’t take long for co-workers to become new friends.
Steve and his wife Cheryl found each other later in life and he would regularly tell her that his life’s purpose was to love her and make her happy. He would say that he wished he found her sooner, so they had more years together. But what matters most is what you are doing with that time, not how long it is, and Steve and Cheryl made a lifetime memories in the five and a half years they were together. With his soulmate by his side, Steve was able to fulfill his lifelong dream of moving to the North. Whether it was pontooning or fishing on the river off their property in Wahnapitae, hosting family and friends, golfing, seeing a Wolves game, or on one of their many travel adventures, these were the best years of their lives. They were each others best friends and biggest supporters and just as soulmates do, they brought out the best versions of each other.
Steve loved to fish and the number of memories he’s left for others during those trips are probably too many to tell, although he tried hard to do so. I know his friends and family will cherish those memories as much as he did.
Steve also had a passion (and frustration) for the game of golf and would play a round at every opportunity; always chasing the “best shot ever!”. He even convinced his wife to start playing so they could have more time together on his days off. The goal was to one day beat his dad, yet not have his son beat him. Steve was always grateful for the bonding time spent on the greens.
Steve’s wishes were to have one big party send off – to share some drinks, and memories, and raise a shot in his honour. Friends and family are welcome to join us at Steve’s home and “happy place” at 54 Riverside Dr in Wahnapitae on Saturday, October 5th, 2024, at 2:00pm.
Cremation has taken place and been entrusted by Simple Wishes of the North in Sudbury.
