Stella Lewis passed away at Royal Alexandra Hospital, Edmonton, Alberta on February 7, 2023 at the age of 78 years.
Stella was born on July 31,1944 Onion Lake, AB. She met Gilbert Lawrence Smith where they had 11 children. During those few years, she had to go to a sanatorium. From that point on, her children stayed with the grandparents and the other one stayed with another family.
In her early years, she had tried to change things in her situation. She took sewing classes offered in Onion Lake. Later, she did her drivers training to get her operator’s license. She got into bead work, sewed leather moccasins or mukluks. After her passing, she had a lot of beads still in her possession. She respected her parents and her traditional values of feasts, honoring her culture. She did what she could for her children. The last few days before her passing, she accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior.
Stella is survived by: her children, Harold Lewis, Barry Lewis, Corrine Lariviere, Carol (Mark) Lewis, Greg Lewis, Laurie Lewis, Eileen (Lloyd) Lewis, Corwin Lewis and Leeanne (Philip) Lodoen; and siblings, Gordon Lewis and Nellie Lewis.
Stella is predeceased by: parents, Morris and Maria Lewis (Muskego); siblings, Lawerence Lewis, Margaret Mason, Dora Cardinal (Lewis); common law, Gilbert Lawerence Smith; children, Tracy Carter Lewis and Kirby Lewis; and grandchildren, Vaughan Berland, Benjamin Carter, Aaron Lewis, Kimberly Lewis and Dwayne Pasquayak.
The Wake will be held at Onion Lake Log Chruch, Onion Lake, Saskatchewan on Thursday, February 9th, 2023 at 12:00 PM.
The Funeral Service in memory of Stella will be conducted from Onion Lake Log Church, Onion Lake, Saskatchewan on Saturday, February 12,2023 at 11:00 AM.
Donations in memory of Stella may be made to charity of donor’s choice.
