Peacefully at Northumberland Hills Hospital, Cobourg, on Sunday, November 26, 2023, in her 101st year. Doreen A. Finlay, beloved wife of the late Archie M. Sproule (d.2003). Loving Mother of Ron (Jeanette), Gerald (Michele) and her much loved daughter Brenda Lee Benoit (Chris) who sadly pre-deceased her on September 14, 2023. Gramma/Granny to her grandchildren Brian (Amanda), Erin and Stephen (Darlene) Sproule; Thomas, Benjamin (Bethany) and Jonathan Sproule; Connor Fairfield; Craig (Lisa), Jenna McLeod (Travis), Jessica (Steven Rau), Amelia and Andrew Benoit. Her great-grandchildren Jacob and Daniel Sproule; Aisling Sproule; Brayden and Cassie Devlin; Sarah Gray (Lucas), Brianna (Patrick), Rhys and Kaitlyn Sproule; and Otis McLeod. Her great-great grandchildren Arianna Sproule, Landon and Hunter Gray-Sproule.
Doreen was born on her parent’s farm near Lloydminster, Alberta, in 1923. She earned her high-school diploma and thereafter studied business, met and married Archie during the war, and made Port Hope home in 1945. Travelling to Ontario was one of many trips for Doreen. She and Archie travelled with their children within Canada, as a couple to England, Ireland and several islands in the Caribbean. Later in life, Doreen continued to travel with family and friends, warm places being her favourite. Doreen’s career life included working in banks and bookkeeping for Archie’s contracting business. She enjoyed participating in her community and did so in many ways. For several years, Doreen and Archie square danced with many clubs in the region. She volunteered with St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church Auxiliary, Beaver Athletic Association, Old Tyme Christmas, LACAC, ACO, Probus and the local knitting guild. Doreen was known for her beautiful knitting as well as her keen sense of humour.
Friends will be received at the Ross Funeral Chapel, 135 Walton St., Port Hope, Saturday, December 9, 2023 from 11-1, Service and Reception to follow at the Funeral Chapel. Private family interment.

An extra special thanks to the Staff at Empire Crossing, Port Hope, who have taken such wonderful care of Mom for the past five years.
