On August 18th, 2023, Slobodan Djordjevic passed away peacefully at Journey Home Hospice at the age of 81. Survived by son Gary Djordjevic, late Daughter Kristina (2021), son Robert (Corinne), ex wife Zlata Djordjevic. He is survived by his grandkids Martez Djordjevic (2017) Curtis Wickham and James King, Alexander, Elijah and Rachel Djordjevic. Slobodan was born in Belgrade Serbia June 21 1942. Parents Milan & Daria Djordjevic. Brothers Dusan, Dragon, Bocha Djordjevic and sister Lilya Andrian.
Slobodan was a well known chess player and a very talented hairdresser. He played some legendary chess matches in his lifetime. Slobodan challenged the undefeated Canadian Chess Champion Milan Vukadinov.
Milan lost most of those matches to my father, my Dad could beat anyone. I remember as a kid. Doctors, teachers, lawyers and even people who own franchises would come downtown to our home in the Glengarry projects to challenge my dad I witnessed a lot of these overconfident chess players get hustled one by one by one.
On my fathers deathbed as he struggled to get his words out, my dad told me in front of my kids
He played Chess Grandmaster Bobby Fischer in Michigan in the 1970s and defeated Bobby.
My father wasn’t bragging because he didn’t care about rankings or winning titles.
Slobodan wanted his grandchildren to know at his bedside in hospice. He was one of the best
chess players to come out of Serbia.
My dad wasn’t perfect and had so many regrets but on that day at his bedside he was a proud
Serbian and a very proud grandfather. We will never forget how great he truly was.
