It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Shirley Marie Claudette Morden (Lessard) – a Matriarch whose love and reach was immense. Shirley is survived by her beloved son Brad (Cathy Russell) and cherished daughter Monique (Chris Bulowski). Her legacy lives on in four amazing grandchildren Russell Morden, Natasha Bulowski (Dominic Schigas), Emma Bulowski, Vera Bulowski and honorary grandchildren (Mila, Harlow and Eya).
Shirley’s heart broke at the tragic loss of her son Patrick when he was 21. Shirley is also predeceased by her former husband and father of her children (Roy Morden), treasured siblings Patsy, Bobby, Sydney, Joan, Louise (orphaned cousin), and devoted companion Arthur Vincent.
In 1956, Shirley graduated as an RN from St. Mary’s Hospital in Montreal. She was the first of her family to do post secondary schooling largely thanks to the support of her big sister, Patsy. Her nursing schoolmates were lifelong friends with a few dear ones still with us (Lise, Gibby, Deneige). She became an Air Canada flight attendant in the days when you had to be a nurse and met our father working a flight. She married in 1959 and went on to raise three children.
Shirley was an enthusiastic equestrian, spending endless hours hacking the Hockley Hills up until the age of 75. She was most at home in a barn among her second family of horsey friends. When the snow came, you would find her on the slopes. She facilitated 10 magical years in Whistler where she skied with her children and grandchildren until she was 80.
Many say «She was like a mother to me.» Her love had no bounds, her empathy was enormous and her wisdom delivered gently. She was a master at unconditional love.
Heartfelt thanks to Team Shirley (Sunny, Richie, Andy, Carol, Lindsay, Summer, Briane and many others) who made it possible for her to stay in her home till the end.
