Obituary for
Sheila Toupin
Sheila Toupin (POWER)
With broken hearts the family of Sheila Toupin announce her sudden passing in Colchester East Hants Health Centre in Truro, NS, on Tuesday, October 1st, 2024. Her husband, Roger, and two of her sisters, remained by her side during her brief stay.
Predeceased by her loving parents, Edward and Gertrude Power of Gander, NL; niece, Thais Dawn Power (Jim & Natalie); brothers-in-law, Chuck MacDonald (Bridget) and Barry Granter (Joan); sister-in-law, Theresa Power (George); Roger’s parents, Ernest and Yvonne Toupin; sisters, Terri Boisvert (Johnny), Mado (Jean Guy Chabot), and Rita (Rodrigue Shooner); brother, Raymond; and brother-in-law, Joe Beachemin (Hughette).
Left to mourn is her beloved husband of 59 years, Roger; her dear children, Stephen (Kim), Marcel (Diana), and Andrea; grandchildren, Rebecca (Jordan), Jocelyn (boyfriend, Ethan) and Julia; siblings, George, Patricia (Leo), Bridget, Mike (Janet), Joan (Gene), Mary (Rod), Ed (Leslie), Jim (Natalie), Gert (Murray), John (Cathy), Maurice (Donna), Darryl and Tom; Roger’s sister, Hughette Beauchemin; many Beauchemin, Boisvert, Chabot, and Shooner nieces and nephews, as well as a large circle of extended family and friends.
Sheila was the first child born to the well-known POWER family. She grew up in Gander with thirteen siblings. While living in Gander, Sheila worked at the Toytmans Department Store, the Bowling Alley, and Hotel Gander, where she was loved and respected by her employers and co-workers.
She met and married Roger, who at the time was in the Canadian Armed Forces and stationed in Gander. Roger’s military career resulted in their family moving around the country for various postings enabling them to develop friendships that lasted a lifetime. They raised three beautiful children who blessed them with three loving granddaughters.
After retirement, Sheila and Roger decided to settle in Lac-des-Îles, Quebec. Their children and grandchildren loved spending time there and were always met with open arms – furry friends and all. They spent many happy retirement years in their home on the lake. There, they embraced countless visits from family and friends who came to enjoy their second to none hospitality. Countless good times were spent on their pontoon and at their delicious Mess Dinners, which they prepared with love.
After 25 years, they decided to relocate to Truro, NS, to be near siblings and other family. Truro seemed like a good fit for their senior years. Sadly, these years have now been cut short.
However, we will not dwell on the sadness of Sheila’s passing but rather on her beautiful life and family. We will remember all the good times and will cherish these memories in our hearts forever.
Arrangements are entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, NS. Sheila will be cremated, and a celebration of life will be held for her in the RCAF Association (The Wing) at 22 Cottage Street in Truro. Family and friends will gather there at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, October 8th to honour and pay tribute to our dearly beloved.
A heartfelt thanks is shared to all who have reached out in any way, and much gratitude and appreciation is extended to the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, particularly nurses, Ashley and Madison and the ICU staff, the Colchester Community Funeral Home, and to The Wing for hosting Sheila’s Celebration of Life.
A little piece of all of our hearts is now gone, but our love for her will live forever.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association – East Hants (CMHA), the Colchester East Hants Health Centre – Senior’s Clinic in Truro, NS, or STEPS On Arthur for adults with intellectual disabilities.
