With heavy hearts we announce that Sharon passed away peacefully on Monday, September 9th, 2024 at The John M. Parrott Centre at the age of 80. She will be sadly missed by her loving husband and best friend of 40 years, Kees van Gent. Sharon will live on in the hearts of her daughters Jill (Mike) Agnew, and Heather (Barry) Colquhoun and grandchildren Danielle and Madeline Agnew. She will also be missed by stepsons Robert and James van Gent and their children. Survived by her sister Mary (Frank) Jardine and predeceased by her brothers John and Alex. She will be fondly remembered by her nieces, nephews, friends and neighbours.
Sharon loved children and teaching, with her first career as a schoolteacher in Fredericton, New Brunswick. After moving to Napanee she taught child study groups to many young mothers. Sharon spent time raising her kids before she started Interiors by Sharon. She was a member of the Napanee Curling Club for many decades, where she curled, ran bonspiels and cooked delicious food, later receiving an honorary membership. She also volunteered at the L&A Hospital for 20 years, receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award for her service. Sharon was well known for her talent in the kitchen with her love of cooking. Kees would often ask if he could help and her response was always “yes, you can leave the kitchen!”, with a laugh. She was known for her love of gardening, music, singing, dancing, wine tasting parties, decorating wedding venues and helping others. Sharon was full of life and touched the lives of so many people with her kindness and compassion. We will all miss her!
Thank you to the staff at the John M. Parrott centre for their care and kindness, giving Sharon a happy place to spend her days. In lieu of flowers, donations if desired, to the John M.
