Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we, the family of Seward (Stu) Ross Reid, originally from Chapel Arm, NL, announce his peaceful passing at the Health Sciences Centre on November 30, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.
Predeceased by his loving parents Aubrey (John) and Whilamina (Minnie) Reid, brothers George Reid and Everet Reid, sister Ada Thorne, brother-in-law Edmund Dunphy, niece Verna (Thorne) Piercey, and great, great nephew Jordan Pitcher.
Leaving to mourn with broken hearts are; brothers Ernest (Mary), Rexon, Kenneth (Gloria), Noel (Betty), Alonzo (Vira), Hayward (Patricia), Christopher (Arlette); sisters Florence Dunphy, Marjorie (Thomas) Thorne; brother-in-law Robert Thorne; many nieces and nephews, great and great, great nieces and nephews. Also leaving to mourn are two very special people to Seward, Jeffery Rose and Ashely Rose along with Ashley’s son Cedrick, who were like his own son, daughter and grandson. Seward had many, many friends from near and far who will forever miss him.
Seward was such a fun and loving person with a heart of gold. He always had a smile on his face and a story to tell. He loved to travel and loved talking about his travels to anyone who would listen, even a stranger. He had a passion for motorcycles, sports cars, boats, camping, spending time with friends, family and certainly enjoyed a home cooked meal. He was an electrician by trade and worked in many areas of Newfoundland and Labrador, the offshore oil rigs and Boston, MA. Even though Seward didn’t have any children of his own, he was an amazing uncle to his large family of nieces and nephews and the love they had in return for him was immense. The fun and cool uncle.
A very special thank you to his nephew Ken Thorne and Ken’s wife Helen for being by Seward’s side during the whole time of his short illness to provide support and comfort. Ken was more than just a nephew to Seward, they became close friends over the years and spent a significant amount of time together. Ken and Helen’s care is very much appreciated by the Reid family.
Visitation for family and friends will be Monday, December 4, 2023, from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm at Warren’s Funeral Home in Dildo, NL. A private family service will be held. Masks will be required for both the visitation and the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Janeway Foundation and/or The Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
