It is with sadness that that we announce the passing
of Charles (Scott) Hamilton on October 10, 2024 at the DECH. Born on
July 14, 1939, Scott was the youngest of 8 children and last surviving
of Charles and Mary Jane Hamilton (nee
Scott).
Scott will be greatly missed by his long-time partner Pat
McGivney, step son Rick McGivney (Margaret), grandchildren Katelyn
Halliday, Will McGivney (Maggie) and Matthew McGivney
(Chantal). He was sadly predeceased by his two children
Robbie (1994) and Lori Hamilton (2024).
Scott was a gentle and kind soul who loved life and all its
simple pleasures. He was happiest when found puttering in
his garden, picking fiddleheads, feeding the birds and outsmarting the
squirrels who regularly frequented the back yard. He considered
himself fortunate to enjoy many years of great health which allowed he
and Pat to travel extensively and eventually spend winters in Florida.
His friends were central in his life and he enjoyed many a happy hour
and laughs with them whether in Florida or on the back deck in
Fredericton. Scott loved to laugh, his warm smile and great sense of
humor will be long remembered by all who knew
him.
His grandchildren were always a source of tremendous pride
and anyone who knew him would know about them. He passed down many
skills including his love of gardening and appreciation of
nature. He delighted in Kate’s talent as an artist and
proudly displayed her work for others to enjoy. As their biggest
cheerleaders, Scott and Pat never missed an opportunity to attend Will
and Matt’s sporting events regardless of location, often travelling to
other provinces and the US to cheer them on.
The family would like to thank Scott’s friends and neighbors
who have been a great source of support and joy to him over the
years.
At Scott’s request, there will be no visitation or service. A
private interment will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery at a later
date. For those who wish memorial donations may be made to Hospice
House or a charity of the donor’s choice.
