Obituary of Ruth Nora Uhryn
Peacefully on May 13, 2024, after a lengthy illness with dementia, at the age of 85, mom spread her wings and returned home.
Mom was born in New Liskeard, Ontario and moved to East Selkirk, Manitoba with her parents at the age of 15. She completed her education at Happy Thought School graduating on May 24, 1957. Mom met our dad in East Selkirk and they were married on July 24, 1957. Mom and dad settled in Old England Manitoba where their three children were born and raised.
Mom was a devoted wife and loving mother who worked hard throughout her life. She was a stay at home mom raising her children until they were old enough to be on their own. She then obtained part time employment working in two local flower shops in Selkirk Mb. She became well known for her beautiful arrangements and was often sought after by friends and family to create memorable bouquets for various bridal and social functions. She could take any bunch of flowers and turn them into a magical arrangement with little effort. Mom then began a full time lifelong career as a medical receptionist working at the Selkirk Medical Centre until her retirement.
Mom made many friends and cherished her friendships. Mom was incredibly talented with any craft or sewing project, needle/petty point picture, oil painting, charcoal drawing, knitting, crocheting, woodworking carvings, Ukrainian easter egg painting and so much more, all of which she completed with perfection. Mom also enjoyed several years of lake life at Lee River. Along with sister Sandy, they spent years researching and creating a detailed family tree dating back to the early 1880’s. Mom enjoyed travelling, attending concerts and she loved music and dancing right up to the time her illness took that from her. Above all her accomplishments she enjoyed spending time with friends and family which was her greatest joy.
Mom was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Lauretta Yaremchuk, husband Albert, granddaughter Amanda and six siblings.
She is survived by her three children Daryle (Candice), Dianna (Cole), Donna (Gord); grandchildren Katherine, Jamie, Nicholas, Desmond; 10 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; many nieces and nephews and some special friends who were more like family to her.
Throughout the years, dementia had stolen so much from the person who was our mom. She would often stare with her soft blue eyes while a lack of recognition clouded her mind as she wondered who the person was that was holding her hand staring back at her, the moments when there was still a spark or glimpse of recognition as she smiled back have long passed. She is no longer frozen in time. While our hearts were broken by the harshness of her illness, we find peace in knowing that a heart that has been broken is a heart that has been loved. Our mother loved her entire family and we will love our mom and cherish our memories of her forever.
In following our mom’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date.
