aged 99, passed away peacefully on August 17th, 2024, in Bedford, Nova Scotia, where she resided for 67 years. Born in Temperance, New Brunswick on March 9 th , 1925, she was the beloved daughter of the late George E. Briggs and Rose M. (Clark) Briggs. Ruth grew up on the family farm, surrounded by her eight siblings, and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
During a memorable evening at the local movie theatre with friends, Ruth met the love of her life, Ernest «Ernie» H. Webber. The two were married on April 28th, 1956, and began their life together. In April of 1957, they moved to Halifax before settling in Bedford in 1961, where they raised their two children, Paula and Nelson.
Ruth was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was an active member of her church and enjoyed the camaraderie of her bridge club. Her passions included gardening, knitting, and traveling with friends and family, activities that brought her joy throughout her life.
Ruth was predeceased by her beloved husband, Ernest H. Webber, as well as her brothers, Saint Elmo, Lloyd (Donna), and Owen (Georgia); and her sisters, Iris (Dean) McDonald, Marjorie (Harry) Bustard, Betty (Aubery) Trecartin, Eileen (Albert) Stairs, and Teresa Woodward.
She is survived by her daughter, Paula Webber, her son, Nelson Webber, and her granddaughter, Brittany Webber. Ruth is also lovingly remembered by her sisters-in- law, Beverley (Clary) Selig and Geneva Webber, her brother-in-law, Roland Woodward, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the caregivers, nurses, and volunteers at Northwood Ivany Place in Bedford for making Ruth feel safe, comfortable, and part of the community.
Ruth’s legacy of love, kindness, and dedication to her family will be cherished by all who knew her. A celebration of her life will be held at All Saints Anglican Church in Bedford on Saturday, August 24 th at 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to All Saints Anglican Church or to a charity of your choice in her memory.
