Brother, cousin, father and uncle, Rusty said goodbye at the Whistle Bend Place, Wind River Hospice House in Whitehorse, Yukon on Tuesday October 15th, 2024, after a battle with lung cancer.
Rusty was the son of Jim and Jean Trimble (both deceased) and father of daughter Tara Downey (Robert), and sons Jake and Jamie Trimble. He is mourned by Becky (Tara’s mother) and Michele (Jake and Jamie’s mother).
He will be sadly missed by his brothers Richard Trimble (Ella) and Roddy Trimble (Cynthia) as well as by nieces Lauren (Duncan), Alison, Erica (Michael) and nephew Ryan.
He will also be remembered by his cousins David, Johnny, Glenda, Gary, Ed, Calvin, Janet, Nancie, Kevin and Neal. Rusty was pre-deceased by cousin Robb.
Rusty was born in Oakville, Ontario and grew up in Streetsville, Cobourg and Downsview before moving to Belleville and then Whitehorse, Yukon in 1997. Rusty was a man of many passions, with a love for family, drag racing, hunting, and fishing that defined much of his free time. He loved his music, favouring the sounds of the 1970s, with bands like Grand Funk Railroad, Supertramp, and Pink Floyd holding special places in his heart. He would help out anybody who asked, often sacrificing the completion of his own chores in favour of helping others. He was especially adept at small engine mechanics and maintenance.
Rusty worked as a Class A mechanic in Toronto and Belleville, then moved to Whitehorse as a mechanic with Diversified Transportation. He worked for several years at the Whitehorse Weigh Scales, and then accepted a position at Yukon Airports. He worked his way up to Superintendent of Runway Maintenance at the Erik Neilson Whitehorse International Airport and all airports in the Yukon. His dedication and hard work earned him the respect of his colleagues and friends alike.
One of his true loves was “the Cottage” at Skootamatta Lake in eastern Ontario where he spent his childhood summers growing up with his brothers and cousins. He spent six weeks of his last summer there, loving every moment, watching the boats go in and out, and laughing at the show while enjoying a cold beer.
Those who knew Rusty will remember his infectious smile and the stories he told, often peppered with jokes that grew more animated as the night wore on. During summer evenings at the cottage, he had a unique ability to bring joy to everyone he met, leaving a lasting impact on their lives. He will be remembered for his always positive attitude no matter what life threw at him, he was always smiling.
Special thanks to the nurses at Wind River House (especially Alexa) and Dr. Kmet. Cremation has taken place and Rusty will be laid to rest in the Belleville Cemetery, near his parents. There will be a celebration of life at a later date.
