Roy Murley Mouland of Bonavista passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 29, 2024 surrounded by his family at the Dr. G.B Cross Memorial Hospital in Clarenville at the age of 89.
Predeceased by his parents Frederick and Trifenia Mouland of Bonavista, sister Alma Mouland, brothers Lyall Mouland and Heber Mouland. He leaves behind with loving memories the love of his life, Viola. His children Roy (Carolyn), Deborah (Brian), Derek, and his brother Hedley Mouland. Forever in his heart are his cherished grandchildren Zachary Mouland, Samantha Mouland, Alexandria Mercer and Isabella Mercer.
Roy was a wonderful person who loved and lived life to the fullest. He was often described as «the salt of the earth» as he put everyone else before himself. He was frequently heard saying, «if you can’t do good for people, then don’t do anything».
Roy and his loving wife, Viola, spent the first part of their life together in Ontario. However, after starting a family, Newfoundland was calling them home. In 1974, they made the move back to Bonavista, Roy’s hometown. Roy and Viola spent much of their recreational time trouting, camping, and travelling this beautiful province. Roy loved a good game of cards and darts and was an active member of the Bonavista Lion’s Club for many years. Roy also enjoyed a grand chat with his friends at the local coffee shop. Roy found pleasure in following the weather and kept a personal journal of this, as well as current events in Bonavista dating from 1976 to 2024. Roy loved his vehicles, even in the winter months you could see him washing his truck, a Honda Ridgeline, and waxing it to shining perfection. In the later years, Roy and Viola could be seen taking leisurely drives to Cape Bonavista. Roy’s favourite pass time was storytelling. For a man of his age, his mind was very sharp, and he was able to remember back to his early childhood growing up in Bonavista, now his enteral resting place.
Roy’s family extends a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Dr. G.B Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville for the professional and compassionate care he received during his short stay.

Visitation will be held at Strathie’s Funeral Home, Bonavista on Friday, March 1st and Saturday, March 2nd from 2:00-4:00pm and 7:00-9:00pm
Funeral Service will take place from Strathie’s Funeral Home, Bonavista on Sunday, March 3rd at 2:00pm with interment to follow at Memorial United Cemetery, Lookout location.
