Peacefully with family by her side at the Palace LTC, Margaret Roseanne “Rose” (MacIsaac/Schoolmaster) MacDonald of Alexandria passed on Wednesday January 25, 2023 in her 92nd year.
Rose spent most of her career employed as a draftsperson for the Hydrographic Society of Canada until she retired in 1996. She worked in Ottawa for 15 years, then relocated to Dartmouth, Nova Scotia where she lived for 20 years prior to retiring and moving to Cornwall.
She travelled extensively: Turkey, Italy, and Yugoslavia – while Tito was in power. Her favourite destination in later years was Cuba, which she visited numerous times. A reservist (Navy) for many years, one of her most enjoyable trips was travelling on a ship to the Arctic: many on board were seasick, while Rose was one of the few to remain well.
Predeceased by her parents, John Roderick (MacIsaac) MacDonald and Katherine (Schoolmaster) MacDonell of Loch Garry, and by her two brothers Donald Garrett «Garry» MacDonald and baby John Burns MacDonald.
Survived by two sisters Christena Ferré (Norbert) of Cornwall, and Helen Roberts (Bill) of Alberta, as well as numerous nieces and nephews Joanne Lewis (Darrell), Glen (Susie), Catherine Gibaldi, Joyce MacDonald (Sandy MacLeod), Donald, Roseanne Hansen (Tony), John Alexander “Sandy” (Nina), Paula Ferré, Sylvie Suranyi (Leslie), Jane Roberts (Geordie Wickens) and Stephen Roberts, as well as many great nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements under the care and direction of the Munro & Morris Funeral Homes Ltd., 114 Main St. South, Alexandria (613-525-2772). As per the family’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Finnan’s Cathedral on Friday February 10, 2023 at 10:30 am.
Spring Interment of cremated remains in St. Finnan’s Parish Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society or the SPCA would be appreciated by the family. As a Memorial to Rose, a tree will be planted in a memory woods. A tree grows-memories live. Condolences may be made online at www.munromorris.com
