Morphew- Peacefully at C.E.E. Hospital in Petrolia with his family by his side. Ronald William Morphew age 89 years and 9 months passed away on June 10, 2023. Loving husband for 42 years of Susan Elizabeth (nee Brown) of Courtright. Proud father of Scott Donald (Aimee Murray) of London and Anne Marie Elizabeth (Arjun Punthambekar) of Toronto. Ron is survived by his brother, Gary Alfred (Sharon) Morphew and their children Debora, Cory, and Christa (Wayne Newman). Also surviving are aunts Myrna Smith of Petrolia and Shirley McDonald of Grand Blanc MI. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. He will be remembered by his brothers- and sisters-in-law Dianne (late Mike 2022) Brown, Pat Brown, Alice Stoner and Rob (Janice) Brown and their children and grandchildren. Ron was predeceased by parents William and Irene (McDonald) Morphew and twin brother Donald John Morphew (1933). After graduating from the Commercial Program at S.C.I.&T.S., Ron worked at Dow Chemical in Sarnia for 18 years. In 1969 with the creation of county-wide school boards and increased demand for teachers of business and technical subjects, Ron changed careers and accepted a job at Central Collegiate teaching typing and office practice. For the next decade through evening and summer courses he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. After 25 years of teaching, in 1994, Ron retired as the Computer Head at St. Clair S.S. He always took pride in his students’ accomplishments and was always happy to encounter his students on the street or at their place of employment. “The most useful course I took in high school was typing, Sir”. That was music to his ears. Also music to his ears was the sound of the Sertomanaires Drum Corps. During his years as band Treasurer he traveled to many parades and competitions and made many friends. In later years he enjoyed the reunions organized for the many young men who were part of the band in the 1960’s. In later years he also served as Treasurer of the Carruthers Foundation and, as a survivor, he volunteered with the Canadian Cancer Society Peer Support Program. The family enjoyed travel whether it was March Break on a beach or a bus trip through Europe. In retirement Ron and Susan travelled extensively, often with Gary and Sharon. European rivers cruises were favoured but other cruises to Australia, New Zealand, Alaska, Hawaii and Greece were great fun. Thank you to all who supported Ron in these last nine months. Friends and family, your calls and prayers were comforting and appreciated. To the medical professionals – doctors, nurses, PSW’s — at C.E.E. Hospital and Continuing Care, Care Partners in our home, Bluewater Health Rehab and our very short stay at Lambton Meadowview Villa – thank you for using your skills with competence and compassion. Special thanks to Dr. E. Daniel for his care of Ron over the years. Friends will be received at the Knight Funeral Home, 588 St. Clair Parkway, Corunna on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 from 5-8 p.m. where prayers will be offered at 5:15 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Corunna with Rev. G. Simard celebrating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
