Ronald J. Fischer Obituary
Ronald John Fischer, of Stratford, passed away at the Stratford General Hospital on Saturday, November 2, 2024 in his 91st year. Born in Stratford, he was the son of the late John August Fischer and the former Ellen (Rodgers) Fischer, and the loving husband of Joyce Mary Banks, and Mary E. (Mallon) Fischer (who predeceased him on April 22, 2000).
He is survived by his three daughters – Beth Fischer of Stratford, Deborah Bragenzer (Paul) of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Marcia Hill (Lee) of Fredericton, New Brunswick; and his grandchildren – Nicole & Jenna Bragenzer, and Robert & Stuart Hill.
He is brother-in-law to Kay (Sproat) Fischer of Huntsville, Ontario, Ruth (Mallon) Locke of Tampa, Florida & Kathryn (Blair) Mallon of Stratford. He was predeceased by a sister Georgina Kompf (Louis); brothers Lloyd (Gertie Jonas), Arthur (Eileen Musselman) & Roy (Kay); sisters-in-law Grace (Weitzel) Mallon & Elinor (Banks) Rutherford (Albert); and brother-in-law Harold Mallon (Kathryn).
Ron was grateful for the experiences he had & the people he met through his years as an elementary school teacher in #10 Downie Township & the Borough of Etobicoke; various Christian churches; the International Lutheran Laymen’s League; L’Arche; Kiwanis Clubs; the Stratford Concert Choir; Cathedral Singers of Ontario, & his years of living at Romeo Court.
A native of Stratford, he attended Romeo Public School, Stratford Collegiate Vocational Institute & earned degrees from Concordia College, Fort Wayne, Indiana (A.A.’53), the University of Western Ontario (B.A.’60) & the University of Toronto (B.Ed.’72). He served as secretary & president of the East District of the International Lutheran Laymen’s League & later served on the Board of Directors for the International Lutheran Laymen’s League & the Lutheran Laymen’s League of Canada. He served on the Stratford Parks Board & had been president of L’Arche Stratford Board of Directors. He also served as secretary & president of the Kiwanis Club of Festival City, Stratford (famous for its Golden Oldies singing in area nursing homes). He was honoured as the Stratford Beacon Herald Citizen of the Year in 2002.
A memorial service with reception following will be held at the W.G.
