It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ronald George Marshall at the age of 83. Ronald, Ron to his family, will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 60 years Valerie, his children Elaine (Frank), Alison (David), Jamie (Allison), his 7 grandchildren, 1 great grandson and 1 expected great granddaughter. He will be missed by his sister Brenda as well as his extended family and countless friends. The family would like to extend a thank you to the Doctors, Nurses, and Staff at the Northumberland Hills Hospital, as well as a special thank you to all at Ed’s House for their kind and compassionate care.
Ron was born on January 29, 1940, to James and Constance Marshall in London England, amid the 2nd world war. He often reminisced on early memories of air raid sirens, distant bombing, planes overhead and times in the bomb shelters. Ron attended Henry Thornton School, in Clapham Common. As a teenager and young man, he had a love for motorcycles and race car driving, and it is where he developed an incredible talent and passion for music. He was involved with the early British music era, playing in a battle of the bands, and coming second to Mick Jagger. He had a close friendship with the pioneer of jazz guitar John Mclaughlin. Ron was an avid collector of model cars, soldiers and trains enjoying many years with his railway clubs.
Ron’s greatest joy was meeting and marrying his one true love Valerie on Oct 6, 1962. Ron and Valerie enjoyed the early years of their marriage in Colchester, England building their family to include three children. Working in the computer industry Ron witnessed the rapid growth of the IT technology. In 1975, Ron emigrated to Ontario Canada where he enjoyed many years with his family that grew to include treasured sons and daughter in law, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He inspired his family with his love of music, playing in a local and family band. He most recently played in the family band at both of his granddaughters’ weddings in 2019 and 2022. He was the heart of his family, and his joy, humor and presence will be deeply missed.
A celebration of life will be planned for a later date. If desired a memorial donation may be made to Ed’s House or charity of your choice in Ron’s name.
