Obituary
Ronald (Bing) Bonertz passed away Monday, October 23, 2023, at the age of 73. Bing was born on January 7, 1950, in Pincher Creek, Alberta. He was the fifth child of Mabel (Schrempp) and Otto Bonertz.
He grew up in the Yarrow area and attended the New Yarrow School from grade one to four. He then attended St. Michael’s School in Pincher Creek. After graduating high school, Bing attended the University of Lethbridge where he received his bachelor’s degree in education in 1972. He then bought the Wilfred Schrempp Farm near Twin Butte in 1978 with his wife, Judy. Bing taught for 11 years before deciding to become a full-time rancher. He pursued his dream of ranching for the next 38 years before selling and moving to Pincher Creek.
Bing loved his farm and had a remarkable way with his animals. He especially enjoyed it when his grandkids came to help him with the chores. Bing was very proud of his children and grandchildren, enjoying the time he spent with them.
He loved sports, whether he was playing, coaching, watching on TV or watching games live. He had his favorite teams, but always had a soft spot for the underdog, particularly in the important games and championships.
Bing was a man of great faith and saw the good qualities in everyone. Bing was a quiet man, but was always a good listener, keeping his opinions to himself.
Bing is survived by his wife of 51 years, Judy; his daughter, Kyla (Kayne) Evans; and his son, Gavin (Lidona) Bonertz; his five grandchildren, Hannah, Caleb, and Makenna Evans, Addison, and Tristan Bonertz; his brother Mick (Claire) Bonertz; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and members of extended family.
Bing was predeceased by both his parents, his brothers Jerome and Jack, and his sister Elaine.
A memorial mass will be held at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Pincher Creek on Friday, November 10, 2023, at 11:00 AM.
