It is with shattered hearts and gentle tears that the Fortin, McInnis and MacQuarrie families announce the sudden passing of their sweet angel, Robin Rokelle Fortin, 56, of New Waterford. Born November 16, 1967 in Glace Bay she was the beloved daughter of Mildred MacQuarrie and the late Harvey McInnis.
Rokelle was kind and selfless. She was brave and caring. She was an unimaginably loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and true friend. Rokelle had the biggest heart and the most beautiful smile. She was smart with an amazing memory, and she captivated your attention when she told her stories that were detailed, witty and fun.
Family was everything to Rokelle. Her mom Millie and her were like two peas in a pod; they were together everyday, loved to shop, visit family & friends and spend time with her loving step-father, Lorne.
Rokelle loved her home where she made so many beautiful memories with the love of her life, her husband Errol. together they shared meals, watched true crime stories and Jeopardy, and spent quality time with their family. When Errol would say, “Let’s go for a drive”, which he did often, she was up and gone, and they would drive around for hours enjoying each other’s company and the beauty of our island. Nothing made Rokelle happier than enjoying gatherings and celebrations with her family.
Rokelle’s children brought her so much joy and pride. They loved her beyond measure. She was always there for her two beautiful daughters, Kendra and Kassidi, as well as the apple of her eye, Keagan her ‘golden boy’. Together, they shared a special bond built on love, compassion and faith that they will cherish forever.
As her family tree grew larger, her grandsons, Hunter, Jacob and Aadyn became the shining lights in her life. Rokelle was so proud of her boys and lived for the many moments of fun and laughter that they shared together. Her grandson’s quote “Nan never says no to me!”, is a testament to how she loved her boys and would do anything for them.
Rokelle had many close friends and cousins who she adored, especially Ardell Caudle, her cousin, best friend and confidant, they shared a fun and very special relationship. Also very close to Rokelle was her tea party cousin, Hilda MacKinnon, who she loved to visit and chat with for hours on end!
In her younger years, Rokelle was a preschool worker for 10 years in Ontario, then, when she returned to New Waterford, she worked for 6 years at Spiegel and another 3 years at Dolly’s Convenience. Besides loving and caring some traits that defined Rokelle were strong-willed and stubborn. These traits were part of who she was and her strength undoubtedly helped her to deal with life’s challenges. For the past 17 years, she suffered from serious medical issues brought on by diabetes.
Rokelle was community minded and volunteered her time as a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 15, Ladies Auxiliary, and she worked tirelessly as a member of the Greenfield Elementary Parent Association of New Waterford.
She leaves to mourn her passing her loving husband Errol Fortin; daughters Kendra and Kassidy; son Keagan (Brittany); grandsons Hunter, Jacob and Aadyn; mother Millie and stepfather Lorne MacQuarrie; brother Harvey(Tracy); nephew Brauch; nieces Stephanie and Rebekah; brother in-laws Norman (Lisa) and Ross (Theresa); grandmother Helen Graham; aunts Dawn, Donna, Dellie and Betty; uncles Charles, Glenn and Brian, as well as many cousins and extended family and friends.
Besides her father, Harvey McInnis, she was predeceased by her brother Harvey; grandparents Mildred and Charles Graham, Mary and Gordon McVicar and Art and Mary McInnis; mother and father-in-law, Ann and Kenny Rosnock, as well as many aunts and uncles that were very dear to her.
Rokelle, everyone you left in this world hates that you are gone but we are happy that you are now in the arms of so many beloved angels in heaven. We will always love and miss you until we can meet again. Your children best describe you as follows:“Our mother is a woman like no other. She gave us life, nurtured us, taught us, dressed us, fought for us, held us, shouted at us, kissed us, but most importantly, loved us unconditionally.
We love you Mom.”
